Ausfish was good at one stage.
With the demise of Brownie's Coastwatch site, I now have nowhere to go for my weekly fix of Moreton Bay fishing reports and I'm really strung out man! So can someone please "hook me up" with a new source before I go stir crazy??!!
Ausfish was good at one stage.
Bookface seems to be where it’s at in modern times. Plenty of groups that are specifically Moreton only. You just have to find the right group with good admin so it’s bearable.

As above, seems the FISHING forum has more posts about the Second Wave rather than fishing and boating.
Members should be able to discuss whatever they want but it would be preferable if it was fishing/boating related rather than the politics of it, that is, how it affects our recreational activities.
As Duckz says, there is a social (I really feel this is misnamed) site dedicated to Moreton Bay Fishing n Squiding that you can join but like most things on that site they can also go a little astray.
fully agree. The active membership of this forum I felt was was trending upward right before the politics section was added. while I’m a willing participant in the back and forth, I’d happily have that section removed to specific fishing related politics only. Which BTW needs a lot more attention considering the GSSMP rezoning is well over due for release and we’ve heard nothing.

I've always been amused by people complaining about fishing forums like these & the lack of reports . ..... my question is when did you last write a report yourself ?
Fishing reports were few & far between when I joined in the mid 2000s & nothing has changed .
Social media has played it's part & there are a hell of a lot of groups you can join ..... but don't expect much more than a photo or two - Ask a question & you are likely to get a raft of smart ass answers with no real help at all.
Most people are just not interested in spending an hour or so putting up a report with some photos ........ many have moved on
As much as anything - these forums do remain relevant on a range of topics where you can post a question & more often than not obtain an answer or at very least some guidance . I know that is why I am here.
I know I've ditched at least 3 forums as they provided very little
As for the politics - it's a section where you choose to join in or not ..... your choice. I'm surprised to hear that people are blaming the politics section. It doesn't stop you writing a report or contributing elsewhere .

Chris, not getting out to fish enough to post but do when I can. I believe the Politics section was originally put up to discuss political ramifications of political decisions made in the name of fishing. Like most good intentions and most social media it has evolved to be totally the opposite. Hard to ignore when it comes up so frequently in the Activity Stream but at times I admit some of comments draw my attention.
I am on another site where it did pop up for a little while but died out due to a focus back to fishing, boating mostly.
Now if I could filter out certain sections it would be great.
Social media has in my mind become the standard and so many can't differentiate the different platforms or think that they are the bees knees.
As an example there are a couple of boat manufacturers that don't have a website but push you towards Bookface which is the most horrible platform to get decent information from. They post lots of "info" which is just basic pics of look what I got up to, I'm struggling to get some very basic info on their hulls.
I guess I'm just an old fart, in fact 12 months ago I decided to get off social media and found I haven't missed it at all.
Shyte !! that mean theres two old farts on this website now ??..
No wander i feel buggered after a good day out Fishing ey ..
exactly. The politics section was really great when it came to MBMP rezoning etc and things like the great sandy straights review that’s now been pending forever. That’s the only need for such a section on a fishing forum.
its easy to say you can chose to join in on certain topics or not. But the fact remains that plenty of very valuable members (around fishing and boating) of this site have left or been booted over political bile spewed on these pages. There’s simply no need for it and is a detriment to this site. If Nagg wants to have a platform to attack the LNP on he can do it on whirlpool or reddit or a myriad of other sites.

Detriment to this site ???? What a load of rubbish .
Unfortunately it's you & that other bloke that takes it to the limit & makes it personal ..... other wise it's just another topic where you can participate or ignore. Getting booted probably means you've acted like a tosser .
Do you really think pulling the politics is going to turn things around on this site ?
All the sudden ,will members will flock back & start posting about their fishing trips ..... put up tips & advice
Have all these past members gone to some other fishing forum ?
Sorry mate , once again you are off with the fairies - the reality is that the landscape has changed . Back in the day fishing forums were pretty well all that was available to fishing tragic s ...... today there is a myriad of options like facebook & the various sites / groups . TV programs & then we have YouTube where the content is endless
How many other fishing websites have declined / closed over the years ?

Oh dear, Jack High might start wondering why he bothered joining and looking back over this thread it appears I'm the culprit by going off topic.
Let's let it lie now.
Thanks all for the replies. I didn't mean to start a thing. I've been a long time member and I reckon there is a real void to be filled in terms of local fishing reports. I was thinking that maybe this site could benefit from filling that void. I know that all fishermen are reluctant to give up their secrets but some general info on what's biting and roughly where should'nt be too painful. I'd better practise what I preach though so from now on I will post a weekly thread on what I've caught or seen caught around my local haunts. I hope others will join me. Happy fishing mates!
