    Re: Aluminium T Top Roof

Had a big mowing company come out today previously the boat was covered with a tarp so they couldnt see the boat last time they were here one old guy came back to the door after finishing and asked how i bent the i beams as he could only see the trailer the boat had the tarp over it

(Mower guys seen the boat 6 months ago)

He was intreged to see the boat he couldnt speak much english but he kept looking at the boat asking questions in broken english, he really liked the boat than asked how much the seats cost than asked about the t top than he asked if that was the boat i rebuilt than asked if i had taking it out to test

Asians are top blokes grew up with a bunch in high school they make great neighbors

The other day when i took the boat out we smelt that train smell of burning brakes just assumed it was the trailers pads running in, on our way home i got within 4kms of home and llost my car brakes going up a hill, had to give them a few pumps the peddle was going halfway down i dropped off 2 cousins and my uncle tthat lifted a bit of weight off the cars brakes

Let the car cool down and the brakes worked fine that night, i checked the fluid the next day and the resivoir was still half full so im going to need to clean the braid fluid and refill her with dot 4 she likely has old worn dot 3 in her, the dot 4 has a higher boiling point so that should fix it

I sort of find this a very strange comment. Unfinished, poorly maintained things will eventually cause a problem whatever the problem may be, but I can assure you that the cost of these repairs will be greater than the original cost if done correctly in the first place.

Gazza cancel a couple of fishing trips and you’ll have the money to correctly cable your battery

Have a look on gumtree quite often people are giving away old stick welders that have good leads on them. May not be tinned but will do if looked after and not get wet. Plus the scrappies will buy the welder itself.

Must be hundreds of battery cables at outboard wreckers.

I never thought of getting second hand cables, i just called a wreckers waiting for a call back

Do you actually need 4 m leads? That seems super long. Where are you going to store the battery?

    Re: Aluminium T Top Roof

I have the main splash well hole on the right side for everything but i have my fuel filter there so i wanted to run my batteries on the left side im just going to put a small hole in the left side of splash well it will look untidy but i should be able to run shorter leads

The wreckers only has 6' cables

Up under the console would have been the ideal place

and no one’s having a sook pointing it out, it’s just a really stupid idea to have a unrestrained battery being washed with water

you only need to do one join or splice as the other connection got the positive can be done at a isolation switch

    Re: Aluminium T Top Roof

Drill a hole in the splash well and put a "slop stopper" in it, you can buy them for a couple of dollars at boat shops, get the one that solid, not just a grommet looking thing, you just cut a small slot in the rubber and poke your cables through, 6' cables should be plenty.

2 of these would be 100 bucks with free delivery and would surely be long enough.

If you make the cable run too long you are adding to the work you are asking that tiny battery to do

Agreed, under the centre console is the best place for the batteries.

Spend the coin & get cables made to the correct length ..... that is what you should be doing

Give a man a fish & he will eat for a day !
    Teach him how to fish
& he will sit in a boat - & drink beer all day!

    Re: Aluminium T Top Roof

Yup will do thanks guys i will measure the correct length, when i ordered the cables i now have i thought 1.5m cables would be plenty but after the cables are routed thru the cowling it only left enough cable to run the battery in the splash well, i dont really want to 'join' cables and do it cheap so i will get the correct length from rtm

Also noticed the last outting i took 3 rods andhad to lay them on the floor i know you guys advised making some rod holders into the gunnel braces which i disregarded but its making good sense now

Im going to make some small pvc tubing and screw them to two gunnel braces so i can slide my rods in there for storage rather than drill big holes in the braces

    Re: Aluminium T Top Roof

Anyone got an idea how to tie down two batteries to the floor without drilling holes? Also anyone got an idea how to attach my t top to the floor it needs to be able to lift up and laid down or completly removable to park the boat

    Re: Aluminium T Top Roof

fiberglass pad or shelf for the batteries to get them up as high as possible or under your console

t top sounds like a pita
mod the console so it hinges
or make a hinge at floor level and just the rear bolt undoes and it tilts forward
