    Brisbane Covid restrictions

G'day all, hoping someone here might be able to assist me better than the government has thus far.

The current lockdown restrictions here in Brisbane allow for fishing for food within a 10km radius of home (see below from the Qld government website):

"You should only fish if it is necessary for essential food and can do so within a 10km radius from your home. Recreational boating is not permitted during lockdown."

Can anyone tell me if the 10km radius restriction applies to the distance between my house and the boat ramp or is the 10km radius applied to travelling on the water also?
I have tried several times to contact someone from the Qld government to clear this up with no luck.

Has anyone here sought out this info or been fishing (for food) during the lockdown period?
Regardless of your personal feelings on the subject I'm simply trying to find out exactly what we are / aren't allowed to do (according to their laws).

    Cheers.

My understanding is if you lived on the boat ramp - you are restricted to within 10kms

That's the idea of these things ..... to keep you pegged to within 10km from home.

    Chris
Give a man a fish & he will eat for a day !
    Teach him how to fish
& he will sit in a boat - & drink beer all day!

yes guys unfortunately I saw some official release from fisheries or some department that its 10km's from your HOME not the ramp...but as nagg says the whole point of the lockdown is to stop people moving about needlessly....

I just hope it doesnt happen in my regional area of FNQ where the population density is very low ...or was very low..

Yesterday at the Mission Beach ramp all the rigging lanes were full of tourists vans and people escaping lockdown..some even had the back of the van opened up and had deckchairs out getting a nice view of the sea...all our Caravan parks are full and all the parking areas along the beachs .lookouts are full of people living out of vans....just chaos for a small beach town not used to such an influx of people...the bad side of the lockdown is that it displaces so many people who then clog up places like ours..

There is a discussion on the Dept of Transport Facebook page. They make it clear that water police are not allowing fishing in lockdown areas. They point out that if fish is essential you can purchase it from shops. Hence no “essential” need to go fishing.

Thanks Gunna for clarification of the lockdown restrictions with respect to fishing. I have been trying to ring QLD Fisheries this morning without success, and I don't subscribe to FB. Cheers SS

Still seeing a few boats up here on the Sunshine Motorway so it seems some are still testing the waters (excuse the pun).

    Re: Brisbane Covid restrictions

The rules state clearly permitted to buy food......that does not say catch food.
    10km radius from home.....
    Recreations boating is not permitted.

The one thing they are not too clear on is essential work.....
    Jack.

The only fishing allowed at this point in time are commercial vessels, not recreational boaties.

I spoke to the coast guard about this subject last lockdown and what they said was they still had to attend to a high number of breakdowns and rescues and thought allowing fishing during a lockdown was stupid as the crew still had to come from numerous households. Most people don't think about those things and they occur more frequently than we see, it's bloody tough but I'm staying home even though the weather, tides and moon have all lined up for the next few days and the fishing would have been great.

    Dignity,
I can relate to that, I'm starting to get very rusty from not fishing, might have to catch up for a fish and crab trip before I get too rusty.

Peter, I think the fishing is regulated by lockdowns, forced to stay home and watch Olympics while the weather is good. Lockdown over so is the weather and the olympics finish. That's my conspiracy theory.
