Thread: Installing a through hull transducer.

    Installing a through hull transducer.

    A question for the wise.

If installing a thru hull transducer, B60 or similar, does the transducer need to be protected from the rollers when getting on and off the trailer?

Re: Installing a through hull transducer.

If they only contact the metal housing it's ok although I wouldn't be keen if it sat on the rollers once in place on the trailer - mine is like that and has been for years but I wouldn't want them in contact with the transducer face at any time . This passage is from the transducer installation guide.

"CAUTION: Do not mount the sensor where the boat may be supported during trailering, launching, hauling, or storage to avoid damaging the transducer’s face".

The transducer piezoceramic element that is used to make transducers is like most ceramics - ridiculously hard (I have tried running a drill through one - barely made a mark) but also brittle. If the actual acoustic face of the transducer was pressed against with enough force there is the potential to crack the element.
