    Dashboard layout

Ill be having a dashboard change.

All of the analogue gauges will be going as will the Furuno> Digital gauges (twin Engines) will be fitted, Im wanting to have an electrical wiring clean up and fit new and maybe fancy switch panel/s, anchor up and down switch and maybe move the Simrad Evo 2 9 inch from bracket mount to flush mount.
What are the pros and cons of flush mounting electronics? Do you wish you had something in a different place on your dash to make it more accessible or useable.
it would be good to get some dash layout ideas.

    Re: Dashboard layout

Hi Brett, I went thru this exercise a couple of years ago, it was a real pain. I found it helpful to layout all the gear( The dimensions) on cardboard before cutting. I actually mounted all the instruments and switches to a separate panel which was then bolted to the dash.
No sounders / satnav were flush mounted , I didn't have the room.

with your simrad there, the gps antenna will be under the dash, so an external gps antenna would be advisable "if you havnt alkready got yourself one"

Sounds crazy, but id consider digital switching if you want things to be neat and tidy "though i understand the reluctance some have over it"

    what engine/gauages are you fitting?

Ill be fitting Suzuki Engines with the Suzuki digital gauges.
I wonder if I can use the Furuno GPS antenna?

The Suzuki rigging quite often includes a NMEA2000 GPS antenna which if wired correctly using a dual power input to the NMEA2000 bus and a backbone isolation tee can be used for the Simrad. The Furuno antenna is unsuitable.

I would look at frank100s separate panel that screws onto dash. Gauges etc would sit in panel. You just have to make it waterproof.

Would be a good time to put in an independent 2nd depth gauge, something like the Hummingbird HDR650.

As you can see a bit of a pain deciding what & where the third pic is more or less the finished layout
