Thread: Raymarine Electronics

    Raymarine Electronics

Anyone recommend cheapest place for Raymarine electronics
    I've seen
    Whitworths $3k
    CHSmith $2959
My thinking on the first two are Whitworths I can drive to where CHSmith are Victoria so for $40 difference I would go local
Arnolds boat shop $2925 copping a lot of negative reviews - they offer 5% discount if you provide email address then once given they say excludes electronics and navigation (sneaky!)

    After Evo150 autopilot

    And yeah I install it
    Cheers

Try a PM to Chocolatemoose on here--he deals in Raymarine, I've bought a complete system from him, very happy.

    Re: Raymarine Electronics

Thanks guys chatting with Moose atm - price seems good
    Going with Raymarine evo150
Only disappointment is I thought the kit came with everything to install as shown in this video but apparently no hydraulics lines or connectors so a few hundred dollars more and a trip to Pirtek

    https://youtu.be/ONXHo1YZN1o

Also about 6 weeks wait atm
    Anyway that's news for now

yeah, I had mine fitted by the boatshop when they were rigging the new motor--saw the bill, hit the roof, they had subbed it out to a hydraulics specialist, $1000 later....A mate bought one after being on my boat for a while, fitted it himself, just had to get line and some fittings as you say. The pilot itself is great, can't speak highly enough of it.

    Re: Raymarine Electronics

Yeah Moose said typically $1k for bods to install or a few hundred for hydraulic parts and some knowledge of hydraulics and go for it
I've done plenty of automotive hydraulics and marine I did the Bennett's trim tab install which is hydraulics
So I'm not paying for someone to do something I know I can do
Do reckon according to the video they once upon a time supplied hydraulic line and fittings in the kit

    Re: Raymarine Electronics

Could do it a lot cheaper Trev. If you want to use prefab lines it will be expensive but there is really no need. Old fashioned nylon line and compression fittings with olives have been in service for years. That's what I used on mine.

    Re: Raymarine Electronics

Scott I think the Bennett's trim tabs were what you describe and so was the install video earlier in this thread.
Moose was talking about flexible hose with woven outer from Pirtek - might be more than necessary
Where would I get the alternative from - same place?

    Re: Raymarine Electronics

Any good hydraulics shop should carry it. If you can't find it locally, the Hydrive stuff is good solid hose. Just make sure it meets the pressure required by your steering manufacturer - also ask for spigots as well as the fittings. I normally get my fittings from Gateway hydraulics - bit of a hike for you but they carry a good range in stock. I assume you have Seastar steering? The firring they use is basically a 3/8 compression with the olive and nut being replaced by the prefab hose end and Oring. By adding a few inches of nylon hose behind the helm and then a tee assembly ( there are a couple of ways of doing this to get the best lay of the hoses), the original hose can be screwed into the tee along with the two steering lines for the pilot pump. There is also a balance line that goes from the lower balance port on the helm to the pump.

    Re: Raymarine Electronics

Trev - You will need to identify what type your helm unit fittings are where you tee the pump in. Assuming you may have a Seastar system then the t pieces you need may be the newer ORFS type. Not sure about Raymarine but with the Simrad kits you would get everything you need for self install, hoses/fittings and the clear hose between the pump and helm unit. No way that stuff should cost that much and installing these things is a piece of cake but the bleeding process can take a while to get all the air out which is critical.

Back of Sea Star hydraulic steering
Be good to have Junction at these two elbows
The pump can fit into this box by the looksIMG_20210417_145209.jpgIMG_20210417_145314.jpgIMG_20210417_145703.jpg
