Gear oil check
Is my gear oil milky? See video below.

Gear oil was freshly changed and then boat ran in water for about 2.5 hours. It was obviously clearer when new. Not sure if this is milky enough to indicate water or just normal after a bit of engine running? Is there a simple way to test for water?
Thanks.

It's a bit hard to tell anything from that, what colour was the oil you used? did you replace the washers on the two plugs?

Re: Gear oil check
It was a slightly clearer green. Marine mechanic did the oil change. Do I need to take a different picture or video? Is there an easy test for water content?

Re: Gear oil check
If it was green when put in, it has water in it now, a gear box pressure test is quick and easy, your mechanic should be able to do it in a few minutes.
