can anyone think of how to weigh a hull?

Coming to the end of my trailer build and i really want to weigh my hull (no trailer)

Old trailer is to far gone to tow the boat anywhere, the new trailer has no vin to obtain a couple hour unregistered vehicle permit and its to risky to yow it to the weigh bridge unregistred

    Surely there is a way?

My problem is if i get knocked back on the 6.00-9" (2000kg rating on all 4 wheels) tyres im going to buy a set of 4.00x10" which are rims and tyre sets but they come in at 1740kg a set of 4

    Hi Gaz,

I had to weigh mine a couple of years ago for a new trailer and I did it at the tip. Mind you it was very handy to the boat ramp so I weighed everything the car, trailer and boat, then took the boat off at the ramp and then came back with everything bar the boat which them have me my boat weight... As I said though the tip.was very close to the boat ramp which helped.

Why put money into that when you could put it towards a replacement set of 6.00-9" 92J tyres? Those 4.00-10" look more like moped tyres than trailer tyres. IMO you'd be crazy running them under that hull.

Don't forget that while on paper you can theoretically split the BMT weight evenly between the four tyres, in the real world uneven loading and dynamic loads on road (potholes, bumps, etc) will cause significantly higher loading spikes. 425kg load rating per tyre sounds very slim to me on a BMT that will likely be at least 1.2T. The 6.00-9" are available in 92J rating (630kg) which seems more in the ballpark.

Edit: Better yet, Deli 6.00-9 SL252 10ply are rated at 95M (690kg / 130kph) if you can find those. Power Tyre Company in Victoria lists them.

You will need to weigh the trailer for rego, so, you have a known weight , just weigh the whole lot again once the boat is on, subtract the trailer weight, job done.

Do you have rego papers for the old trailer?

    Blatantly stolen from the internet...
You can weigh the boat with a regular household scale using simple math and physics.

    1. First put the scale under the tongue with the boat pulled all the way up on the trailer. For me the scale read 150lbs so W1=150

    2. scoot the boat back on the trailer EXACTLY 10" so 10=X

    3. reweight the tongue. For me it was 100lbs so W2=100

    4. measure the distance in inches from the axle to the tip of the tongue. For me it was 180". so 180=C

    5. Plug all 4 of your numbers into the equation. C(W1-W2)/X

    Mine looked like this... 180(150-100)/10

    6. do the equation
    a. first you subtract 100 from 150 which = 50
    b. then you multiply 50 by 180 which= 9000
    c. finally you divide 9000 by 10 which = 900

So my boat weighs 900 lbs. It will only take you about 5-10 minutes to do.
You may have to jack up a piece of pipe between the chassis rails to act as a pivot point.

Guys what im worried about is once a blue slip is done i really cant change my trailers max weight rating so if the mechanic decides 1400-1600kgs than thats it im stuck

Take his recommendations home and change the tyres to suit
then go back with the changes he wants to carry the weight you want

    pretty simple

I also looked under my trailer when i drilled the front U bolt and noticed my tow hitch bolts were 35mm too long which would be why the trailer got caught reversing into my backyard now im going to chop off that 30mm and add a 2 inch higher towball so thats an extra trailer lift by 80mm really hopping im able to reverse the trailer up the driveway
