There’s some very interesting things about this outboard. The pivoting gear case is very very cool but the thing that I think has game changing potential is the gearbox is a two speed!
it’s been something I’ve been wondering for years. Especially how smooth modern automatic gearboxes are. Potentially you’ll be able to run much bigger props/pitches than current HP engines can handle. This technology can’t come down the horsepower range fast enough.

Just thinking with aprice tag of 100k+ aussie dollars can u imagine the cost to rebuild one in 30 years just that pivoting gearbox means one huge costly driveshaft + seals and mentioning seals its submerged theres going to be corrosion near seals that leak whats the pressure of salt water at 2-3 foot deep? This design just screamsits going to be a pain in the ass?
I think that swivel joint is going to be a design failure and a costly one at that
I wonder what the automatic gearbox is worth and maintenance costs are
There was gossip around long before anything was official, that the actual gear change system is not in the lower section, but further up the leg, no idea how true that is...yet.
V12 - 600hp + merc
imagine how deep you anchor with that !!!!!
the black anchor.

I think the only boat under 6.5m to accomodate a v12 merc would be something like a Cootacraft or something supper solid custom hull to handle thekind of weight and torque
This two speed gearbox could be a game changer if Merc can build it strong enough and small enough to come right down the HP range. If they’re fast enough doing it they will take huge chunks out of the market share of the other manufacturers.

2 speed props were around years ago. Didn't seem to change anything...
its nice to see tall poppy syndrome is alive and well in australia
Well done mercury, fantastic piece of kit.
