    Anchor Question?

Evening everyone. Just looking for bit of first hand experience on some anchors. Reason being i'm in the market for a second anchor that will be my primary back anchor on the those family trips backed in to the beach at tangas etc. At the same time I need it to be as goog a spare for the primary as possible. The trouble is i'm limited on where I want to store it, needs to fit in rear storage, max length 650 and 300 height, 300 width.

Boat is 6.5m and 2.4 tonnes or so wet, primary anchor is a sarca 3 (8m chain), in looking around whatever fits my preference is going to struggle as a really decent primary spare, narrowed it down to these 3 possible ones. I guess what do you recon would have the best holding power of these? I'm thinking excel 1 ahead of the delta ahead of the cooper? Any experience with any of these welcome, I've run super sacra's on all my boats but I cant fit super 2 through the storage door. Scott

How about a Danforth? they are flat, and if you buy a decent one, they work well in sand.

And if you spend a bomb you can get a fortress that disassembles. Nice bits of kit though.

Doesn't the Excel come with a removeable shank version ?

Thanks fellas, Scottar, Noel, looking for something that is more of a combination anchor than a typical sand anchor so it doubles as spare for the main to a point.

Nagg, yep, sarca excel comes in a bolt togther alloy version, bloody expensive!!, I was hoping to find something cheaper and can do the job without the need to assemble. I checked a few out today, still working through it.

    Re: Anchor Question?

I just got a 6kg Delta for my 24’ boat and can’t believe how it holds. I really thought it would be dicey, but it holds like no ones business.

I've just bought a 6 kg Rocna for a similar sized boat. Haven't had it in any bad weather to test it but gives you another option to consider.

    Re: Anchor Question?

I had a Rocna fisherman after years of suffering the hopeless sarca, wow what a difference, instant grab and no dragging like the sarca. There's some good Rocna videos that show the difference and a comprehensive anchor test done in the US that included them both and others that confirms my experiences.
Had to change to a grapnel now due to swells and reef though.
    Cheers

    Re: Anchor Question?

Bloke in the game club with a 30' Black Watch uses a small 6kg Delta and only about 10m of chain for anchoring at Fraser in the shallows. Only moved once he reckons but he lays lot of rope out. For Tangas etc that should be fine. Personally I am a 27 pound plough and 25 pound Manson Supreme guy.

Whitworths also stock a DC anchor looks identical to the Delta but a little cheaper well worth a look. I now run it on my boat and so far so good
