The stand pipe system has flaws - usually the pump is putting in more water than can drain through the pipe .
second problem I have had is that small baitfish ( poddys) will often jam the pipe .

I have to say that the barcrusher system works the best ....... drains via a couple of bungs with multiple overflow holes at the top . It never sloshes into the cockpit & baitfish don't get jammed Live bait tank.jpg

Also a great place to bleed out fish

This is the tank i bought and the one mentioned previously, great tank u dont think 35 litres is much but its plenty big for 4 fishos 20 yakkas or possibly even 50 poddy mullet

20 yakkas last us about 5 to 10 hours

20 poddy mullet are gone within an hour 2 people fishing when the kingys, bonito, leeping watson bonito, mack tuna are around but when there are tailor not even worth putting a live bait outAttachment 120226

Easy way to stop fish squid getting stuck is to make it a bit linger and drill a heap of holes around the outside of the pipe

    Impossible to block

I haven't had an issue with the drain not keeping up since I fitted the tees to stop bait getting it's nose into the outlet and my outlet is smaller than the commercially available one with the guard fitted to stop it clogging. I run a dedicated 500GPH bait pump that feeds either one or two tanks via independent isolation spray heads. Unless you are wanting to run tubes there really isn't a need for any more flow. I'm actually not a fan of the Barcrusher system. We had it fitted on a tank on the back end of a company Senator. Much like in the photo it leads to a pretty obvious area of staining on the back of the boat. Only cosmetic I know but hated it just the same. Each to their own I guess.

if your worried about scales blocking the outlet just use long shank hooks no need to touch the bait fish when going into the tank there are ways of working around knocking the scales off

or u could use one of these strainers https://www.arnoldsboatshop.com.au/l...UaAgz3EALw_wcB

I had the same style but ripped it out. Now the water runs from the pump straight into the bottom of the tank. It’s good because fish like herring lose a few scales and they don’t settle on the bottom as much. He upward water pushes them to the surface where they can go out the over flow. Whilst ever the pump is on the bait stay alive a long time.

Do you mean you had the standpipe system and ripped it out?

Yep the stand pipe came up almost to the same height as the over flow. I was losing a lot of baits prematurely and finding way too many scales in the bottom of the tank at the end of the day. I figured that was the cause and wanted the water stirred up more to flush out the scales. It worked.

I thought the standpipe was the overflow.
Water filling from the top or bottom until it reaches the top of the standpipe then drains down through it?

Normally it is. There are vertical spray bars avaiable for the inlet if you want water feeding into the bottom of the tank but I've never found it to be necessary.
