Wide Cal 28/8/19

Hi all.

Took another boss’s day on Wednesday, and hit up Wide Cal again.
Anchor down by 5-30.

Current was running quite hard but still got out bag of snaps by around 9am.

Played with a few more for for an hour or two, throwing them back, and headed in and back on the trailer around lunchtime.

Had the fisheries do a very thorough inspection at the boat ramp, even checking the bait esky and lunch box’s.
Friendly blokes though, and off home we went without drama.

Quality was down down on the last couple of trip. Best fish late 60’s.

Had had a great day. Can’t wait to do it again.

Great job. Top catch there.
I never seem to have much luck with Snapper on Caloundra Wide. I seem to mostly get pearlies and trag drifting in 70-80m.
Do you fish shallower?
Do you anchor on structure or open areas?

Hi Finicky

i anchor in around 60m on the gravel.
Rarely see fish on the sounder, but burley really hard, and most of the time, gets us a result.

Float line with whole pillies, with very little, or no weight.

When they really get in a feeding frenzy, it is awesome fun. The bigger fish keep coming higher and higher up the water column. They like the bait to be moving, but you also want to keep it away from the bottom.
