doesnt seem much diff to a four stroke just a oil filter and oil v different things with the etec
much diff as in stuff still needs to be done
Steve ...I talked to my dealer today and that list is mostly what my local guy will do .each year except they don't bother dropping the leg and checking waterpump unless you want them to...or if you tell them you have been chewing a bit of sand....said it was about 1.5 hrs..

So I guess you are looking around $150 vs $600-900 for a 4-6cyl 4 stroke.....I'll post the actual service schedule if the dealer sends it through...

He also mentioned that the G2 motors have a Gearbox oil viewing port in the engine bay so unless there is any sign of water its not scheduled for a change for the 5 yrs..

The application of power was one of the things that struck me most when I had a play with a 200HO G2. The power delivery seemed a lot more linear than my G1 version - basically torque in spades. As for the fuel, the G2 version against mine at cruise revs (3500-4500) was using roughly 30% less than mine.

That is quiet a saving the G1's are already running lean so to save 30 percent running the G2 i wonder what these new models will be using compared

A service on my 50 four cylinder four stroke is $225 which is checking everything and a oil change

For the average guy the claims of service cost savings arnt really there as most engines do well under 100 a year

Plugs anodes water pump are checked and replaced based on hours wear same as any other engine

$100 a hour seems cheap for labour
The viewing port is a nifty idea

Can I see an invoice of that $200 service Steve...?..it would be interesting to see what they actually did....it doesn't sound representative of an average 4 stroke service..

I have talked to a few dealers and the minimum cost for a service during the warranty period for a 150hp and above is about $600-650 I have been told thats with even the most basic of service without replacing anything except oils and filters and a minimum time of 2.5-3 hours....this first year service for a Suzuki 150 locally was about $880..

What is everybody else paying for a 4 stroke service during the warranty period and after..?

    Re: Etec G2

If I take my Merc 150 down to the dealer ( 320k round trip) , it costs, IIRC, about $550. (Country WA) If I wait for him to do the mobile mechanic thing, it costs $625. That is for a basic 100 hourly, my next one is 300 hours so add an accessory belt and thermostat.

Ring Wagga Wagga marine and ask them as that is what I was quoted two weeks ago when they fixed my motorguide and
I only have 23 hours so Havnt had a service done yet

Booked in for after I get back from Tuross heads in July

It’s all a visual check check and a oil change
There’s no magic voodoo about a four stroke

As stuff wears like anodes it will be higher I’m sure
I normally change a impeller every 2 years even if not worn as it’s good to have things apart to stop corrosion locking legs on etc

Its almost impossible to compare running costs due to all the variables.

    Re: Etec G2

Servicing "costs" still seem to some extent based on horsepower. Comparing quotes on a 50 against a 150 will always give a disparity.

    Re: Etec G2

Not sure if this helps as Scottar says there is a difference in HP. I think you are in FNQ also disorderly, I’m in Babinda. I use the mobile mechanic for servicing my 40hp Suzuki 4 stroke and last regular service was $320.

    Re: Etec G2

I think having a service done is not always based on time, it's just a set price per HP (probably set by what the local customers will pay) and lots of places do nothing more than what you would do st home, but, a decent dealer does a lot of unseen adjustments, checking of possible known issues on particular models, attention to minor issues probably not noticed by the owner and lots of other "stuff" reputable dealers are pretty rare in lots of areas.

    Re: Etec G2

the mercury dealer close to me in Brisbane has a plaque on the wall with service costs for the recommended hourly intervals. it is then broken down into HP groups, and prices were plus parts. I was then surprised that there was no difference in cost between 2 and 4 stroke in any HP range!

    Re: Etec G2

as noelm said also geographic location ie a deal mechanic in th einner harbour or north shore area would charge more then say bathurst

the servicing argument between a etec and a four stroke didnt even factor into the equation of what outboard to buy, there was always going to be a cost to ownership

fellas doing many hundreds of hours a year arnt the norm
