and are there any issues with the new models other than the inbuilt steering which I wouldn't get anyway..?
Mate, you will get all sorts of answers to your choice.
I personally am upgrading to a gen2 150 in the new year. I currently run a 2010 gen1 with 745 faultless hours. I don’t buy anything for resale if it’s a keeper. You have to be happy within yourself in regards to performance, suitable Etec technician service and if you plan on keeping it for the duration of the engines lifespan.
I’ve owned all brands in different horse power including tohatsu and can honestly say nothing bad about any of them. Maintenance and service is the key. All in my humble opinion.

you dont want one, you dont have to buy one. If you have information that says 10% of etecs are duds, i'll eat my hat, till then, eat my wake.
15 years really? that long... but wait.... there is only... one model after it so lets face it you and i will never know that 10 percent figure because we are not the CEO of Evinrude but you can keep trolling little boy

That is a bit of contradiction Ducks? The life of the engine, IT's still running. Your upgrading and it will be sold?

No contradiction Gazza, 10 years service of an outboard engine is more than enough to trust the gen 2 technology. Not sure why you have a vested interest in bagging the Evinrude brand but if I get 10 years of maintenance free engine I’m going to be happy upgrading. Curious why the hate?

P.S. I’m upgrading because I see the benefits of the new technology and because I can. Don’t even know why that’s even a discussion.

Ducks i donno where everyone is getting this negativity from that i am against Evinrudes? in fact i will clear this up now i would buy an Etec over any other engine so long as it has warranty be it from Evinrude or a shop offering there warranty i have owned many Evinrudes over my boating history way back to selectronics to the two Etec's i have had although not runners i have nothing against them

i would like warranty just because they are so technical pieces of machinery and if they go bang they cost a lot of money where as modern 4 strokes are still very simple designs and way less technical

WTF are you eating or drinking? 2 stroke etec more complex? mate , you need to see somebody. The beauty of etecs is the simple layout using modern technology ie direct injection and ECU. just cause you couldnt put it together, just saying....
the hole is getting deeper, stop digging, lol

Andy have u even looked at the software and gone into the settings and had a actual look at how technical a Etec really is? i think not otherwise u wouldn't be saying shit all, I highly suggest u take a look before saying anything next time compare it to a none software adjustable modern 4 stroke... you really are showing your statue

You can judge someone else's ability beore you judge your own but i for one know i can rebuild a Etec quiet easily its nothing out of the ordinary its all mechanical u just put parts back the way they came out quiet easy really for someone that is mechanically minded unlike your self who is challenged or u wouldn't be running someone else down, its the software that gets techical had i rebuilt my Etec i would have paid a Evinrude tech to come out to my house and reset the settings and go over everything "computer controlled" jnust because i am technically challenged on the computer side of how a Etec runs and all of its settings and adjustments

Andy i am happy to screen shot pictures of all the Etec advanced setting and have u note each and every setting and tell me what they do, Where they go, and its perimeters haha but i know this will be a major fail...

The web site for etec gen 2 reads impressive, "every revolution is a power stroke" ...'precise fuel delivery at any rpm" sealed fuel system and less moving parts and it goes on and on . the styling of the outboards are absolutely awesome.

    Re: Etec G2

the HO series, i guess its better injectors or fuel delivery change to get the higher output, and the altenator delivery seems to put out more amps too , much more than normal or am reading that wrong .

Of course the advertising website tells you how good they are, be pretty rare for a manufacturer to say their product is average or unreliable! All EFI engines have a sealed fuel system and precise fuel delivery.

    Re: Etec G2

The only way to make more hp is capacity or running a engine as lean as you possibly can for an ideal air fuel ratio

The etec is as complex as a four stroke and possibly more so just in different ways . Multiple ecus extremely high pressure injectors exhaust valves and the only way they meet emissions is by a oil system that provides the minimum lubrication straight to the point needed

Where a four stroke is just basically a car engine tried and proven turned on its side

Anyone who can’t see the above is only looking skin deep at sales brochures or is totally ignorant of what they are actually endorsing

All are good engines it’s having a service center that knows what they are doing that matters most

    Re: Etec G2

Yet they are popular, reliable, keep going and at days end cost the owner less in maintanence.
    What matters most full stop!!!!!.

Ive had Honda 4 stroke. Mate a Suzi, both good motors but count the $$ in servicing and speaks loud enough i think.
