Personally, I like the modified version much better than the original, the pic above reminds me too much of the Scarabs, and I had 2 of them. The modified version looks classier to me, too bad I wouldn't be able to afford to even paint it and I would hate to think how much juice it would suck per hour, that is one big long boat, besides, I don't think my Jeep would tow it either.
It does throw out a lot of water on the sides and back so probably not very fuel efficient, and it was probably traveling quite fast when that pic was taken, but if you can afford one of these then you most likely wouldn't be concerned about that little issue!
Such a classy boat in its day. I dare say I think it’s days are numbered.
The internet advertising may be good but to be stuck in the yard if an outer suburb of Sydney ain’t the place it needs to be.
It needs to be in the water on show for people to see,but even then I think the price tag for such an old boat would be better off put towards something newer and more useful.
Just my thoughts.

Its an aluminium hull which is a suprise to me i don't think i have ever seen one of this size in alloy i thought they were all glass, someone surely spent a fair money on it to have it built
This is the guy who had it built when he owned Hamo Gaz. Money wasn't an issue

The one thing that I think would be a problem is that it might be way too long for it's width, they seem to have extended the length and also raised the sides so that you could walk around to the front without falling off, but it looks like they didn't widen it hence the very narrow walk path, normally on a boat like that you would walk on top of the cabin roof and there should have been a high rail on the sides to hang on too if you need to but the original didn't seem to have it though.
With the extended length it would go well in a straight line but I think that turning and beam on sea might probably would be an issue. Don't know how much they are asking for it but either way there are probably much nicer boats out there for the money. Maybe not as long but much more practical, also how much it would cost to move a 80ft boat from the suburbs of Sydney to sea water, might cost that much again just for the move. It's well above my pay grade!
The cost of a refit with engines to do this hull justice will run into the millions. It has just cost the company I work for the best part of $400k to refit a 45' commercial workboat - new engines, new gearboxes, rewire etc. This needs new donks, gearboxes at least fully stripped, new interior, rewire, probably new nav gear and entertainment plus a whole heap of other stuff. It wouldn't be a small project for a company that specializes in this sort of work let alone an individual. The last superyacht I had any knowledge of costings on was "Aussie Rules" and back then it was basically a million a metre. Prices haven't come down. Restoring this to anything close to it's former glory will require someone who is beyond rich.
it was an awesome boat in its day, certainly earned its name. My neighbour was crew on it for a period and it took some looking after.
Gaza, spent some time in the Mediterranean least year and while in Barcelona I spent some time down at the marina and I saw some super yachts made from Ally that make this boat look like a puppy.
Doing a refit/rebuild well takes.........well it takes money. and often something more. you need to just not care about cost and have a dream. and good on those people who do!
We have three projects underway..... and i reallllly hope the current owners keep at it, We have a 30ft formular that was salvaged from the depths. so new glass, new engines, new bright work, new clears, new seating, new electronics, new wiring, new fridges, ice makers, new stereo, new cabin lining, new plumbing, new tanks "oh the tanks are okay come to think of it". then has to be cut back, repainted, antifouled, and then hauled back in for sea trial.........300k should do it.
i often find myself looking at boats for sale you could snap up for 300k have built and delivered before this will be done
BUT! the boat has great lines, awesome history. a mad owner. and will be a bit of an icom here in PPB. so.......we keep going
Indeed Anthony, if one had money u could go out and buy what u want or even have it all built for you i can understand u when u need more than just that my mate waa talking me into chucking my project in and keeping my small boat but something possibly my dream is keeping me chugging along its a dream boat it may not be perfect but it woill be what i want built with my ability
If i could afford a shop to build my boat it would probably cost $30,000 money i just couldnt even dream of i'm hopping to have it done for under $10,000
