    Bribie summer whiting

Gday all, just wondering if anybody has any success up Toorbul Donnybrook way with summer whiting, ive tried time and time again, bought worms and caught little bream, grunter bream ect, when we use yabbies its more of the same, yesterday we sat next to a large bank exposed on a falling tide and put out lightly weighted yabbies in around 1 meter or so of water next to weed, we caught a constant stream of small bream, grunters and several small sweet lip but no whiting, is this normal for the passage?.
Prior to trying for whiting we tried for flathead for one small 45cm model, for the last 8 years that I have fished the passage the same thing happens every year, as soon as the water heats up the flathead go off the bite, from November to march its dam hard to get a feed..
And despite light to calm winds the passage seemed deserted yesterday, more quite than most week days, must have been the heat..

Ive been getting them on the run in tide early in the mornings close to the mangroves. As soon as the sun gets up a bit its all over though.

The guys up here tend to fish away from the weed a bit as you will get a lot of by catch and usually in slightly deeper water, they do prefer a bit of run in the water as well. If chasing on poppers once again away from the weed beds but in shallower water so long as the bottom is reasonably scalloped.

We tried away from the weed edges at the edge of the sandbank north east of Glasshouse creek, at this spot our yabbies were untouched.
And hey funchy ,hope you have been well, ive been buying a few hardbody lure to explore areas like that, and it got dam hot out there yesterday..

Some days are like that, a lot of guys up here prefer the run out tide to chase Whiting, a bit of berley is ok but not too much, also those that are successful follow the tide, they start further up the passage and work their way to wards the bar, then do it in reverse.
