Trying the deeper water off Caloundra

Yeah 80lb

Depth varies from 160 to about 240.

Still fairly fresh with out deeper so still just hunting around when weather permits for some ground.

Been playing around with Fish Track this week temps and currents will look at it more tomorrow to see if it's worth it linked to Buoyweather

You'll find it hard work Lee and probably be turned off the deep by doing it manually.
Especially if you're using a heavy sinkers.
Will be keen to hear how you go.

Mate I only have a deckwinch and a tld50. I am keen to catch a fish out there before I make the commitment to electrics.

I'd say so.
Never fished the deep off Caloundra but would like to.
My problem is trying to find a park at Bribie due to limited parks I can park in on a weekend unless I leave at 3am.
Use to be great until they built those units next to the ramp
I need to do mid week trips but work gets in the way.

The green eyed sharks are commonly about 1mtr long.
You hardly know you have them on.
Don't know how they chew but have heard they are ok.
I always throw them back. They don't suffer deep water trauma either.
Just bear in mind they are sharks and your bag limit is 1 under 1.5mtrs per person if you get any and want to try them.

I have a mate down the Goldie that fishes the Canyons with a 80wide Tiagra in 600mtrs.
He has arms like Arnold Schwarzenegger
Electric reels are the go.

For anything deeper then 60 metres hey mate lol

Yep, bloody hard work, last time out in only 125m of water, I only had a TLD25 using 24 Oz of lead and first drop a double of 4 kg pearlies. Certainly was hard work, I'm now on the hunt for a good electric reel.

Tyrnos 30 with a custom handle is the best I have found for a deep water manual set up - short of a deck winch. Used with a kidney harness and belt you get a nice little back massage to boot.

Didn't know you got Green Eyes up that far! they are a pest, winding up from deep water to find a stupid little Shark on every hook, they are OK to eat, but I don't eat them myself. Lots of deep dropping goes on down this way, but really deep like 350m plus, main targets are Gemfish, Blue Eye and Hapuka, but lots of "stuff" get caught as well.

Forgot to add, an Alvey Reef King/Queen is probably the best "manual" reel to use, standard over heads are OK, but it takes a very long time to wind up.
