Hi peoples,
I'm refurbishing 2 Butterworth surf rods for a mate, and I'm trying to restore them to original condition. I have one that is a Fingal S.U but cant work out the numbers, some info would be appreciated and I'm also after a sticker for the rod indicating the past time power rods label.
your help would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Russ

Maturity is not when we start speaking BIG things,it is when we start understanding small things
Thats the problem, I cant see the numbers, they are far too faded.
I've got an old Butterworth Fishhunter surf rod if that's any help ?
It has a part number MT 8144H
Saltwater fishing, boat mad but has a job that gets in the way.
MT = medium taper
8 = 8 wrap
144 = 144 inches long
H = ?

Fingal S.U, that's the only writing I can figure out, the other numbers after that are too faded.
Yep that sounds about right, H could be something to do with the wooden butt ? Hardwood ?
Sorry I know this doesn't help the OP.

Fingal was the rod for overhead or threadline reels ie long butt.
The Fingal you have should be SU7153 ie surf, 7 wrap and 153 inches.
They did have a SU6156 also.
H stands for heavy ie heavier wall of rod for throwing larger weights.

Thanks Dave
that'll help heaps, do you no where I can get the Butterworth decal, or a copy so I can make one up?
I know it maybe asking allot but I cant find anything on the net.
cheers
Russ
You won't be able to buy decals . I have never heard of them for sale.
The only possibility is to find an old rod with the decal intact and then remove, or somehow try and copy.
