Any Vic Fishers - Black Rock Boat Ramp
Hi all, normally I head out from Altona but being the adventurous type that I am 🤣 I was planning to give somewhere else a go over the east side of the bay.
From where I live black rock is just over an hours drive. Then my next obvious spot would be Paterson River - I've read about and can see on google maps that this ramp looks nice.
All of what I can find on the web about Black Rock boat ramp is at least a couple years old.
I'm wondering what people's thoughts and experiences are launching and parking at Black Rock.
I've got. 5.5m fibreglass boat, so I'm guessing from what I read it's about the size limit for Black Rock anyway.
Does Black Rock ramp regularly get crowded ?
Even this time of year ?
Cheers

Re: Any Vic Fishers - Black Rock Boat Ramp
It's been years since I was there, at that time at low tide it was VERY shallow ( not that it's much better at high tide ) and even tinnies were a get out and push proposition. It may have been cleaned up but don't know - it is Vic after all. Used to get crowded in snapper season but not many this time of year. With a deepv glass boat you're probably better off just biting the bullet and go on to Patto its way way better. Even mordialloc creek is probably a nogo - you've got to get under the bridge which may be an issue with your t-top and its also pretty shallow. Plus it's full of submerged shopping trolleys and the carpark is treated by the locals as a spare parts shop for trailer bits.

During this time of the year is pretty easy going at most ramps.
Don't discount launching at St Kilda, while its only one ramp, its wide and the best for launching in Melbourne.
I quite often launch there during the week, yes it is a bit of a run if you want to fish top end, but I always get a feed of flat head, 200 meters out drifting.
Patto has multiple ramps and closer if you want to fish top end as mentioned and 75 percent of the time I would launch there.
But I do enjoy launching at St Kilda, and even travelled past Patto to browns mountain for a fish, great run for the boat.....
Yours is the same size as mine, forget black rock or mordi, in my opinion.

Thanks heaps Swof63 and Blacklab,
I appreciate the information, ok so either St Kilda or Patto it is.
Anyway this weekend is looking ok so far with little wind, little rain and plenty of cold air. I'm keen as mustard to get on the boat and have a fish.
Cheers
Jamie
