Surtees 610 Workmate Yamaha F130 or F150?

After a long duration of research and finally selling my Quinny, I have decided to pursue a Surtees 610 Workmate. I have been quoted with a few options and a Yamaha 130hp 4 stroke. I just wanted to know if anyone out there has a similar sized vessel powered with the new Yammy F130, and how they perform. I usually head out with just the missus and pooch, or one other fishing buddy. I don't really see myself having 4 POB too often, but if I did and had a bit of gear in as well, will the F130 cut it? Its about $3400 to jump to the 150 and I know they always say go max HP (like I did with the quinny), but my budget will mean I have to sacrifice something such as the Garmin 7410XSV ($4383 fitted) and go to a 95sv or something, Then it brings up the question for fuel consumption and other running costs. The Surtees 610 comes standard with the 150L fuel tank, and if I opt the Long Range Tank, I loose the kill tank (not the end of the world, but do I need a 220L running an F150?) . I usually head about 50km off Townsville, but with the new boat, I want to punch out to the reef (150km Return + trolling). So I guess also, does anyone have the current model F150 on a similar sized vessel? Speed is always good, but at the end of the day, it's usually choppy and I would be probably just sitting on around cruise speed.

In all, any advice from owners on Yamaha F130hp/150hp fuel use, servicing and performance I am keen to hear from you.

Why do you need a 4.5K worth of sounder in your boat yet unsure of what the heart of the boat should be?
If your heading offshore, invest in a good quality gps epirb, vhf, sat phone and life-raft before pondering budgets for extra outboard hp.

Well, it is the first item to be adjusted if reputable advice is validating my thoughts in relation to the outboard. The safety gear has already been optioned and prioritised accordingly. Thank you for your input.

We have a 560c barcrusher same hull went from a 115hp Yamaha to a 150 etec and made a big difference in handling and power, fuel economy was about the same but can cruise at higher speeds for same economy. I know they are different motors but we noticed a big difference and added hp.

We also have 2 seperate combos a 75sv for gps and furuno 620 for sounder and have found it great have two units. You would be able to have a 95sv for now with thoughts to upgrade to a better sounder at a later date. We're as if u opt lower hp it's a lot more costly to upgrade.

With 150 litre tank gives us a range of about 260km being conservative, have never needed to take extra fuel but in saying that very rarely use the kill tank as it's not a self flooding tank and can be a paint to put bung in and out all the time especially when rough generally just turn the live bait tank on and shove the fish in there to bleed or just use the deck wash on the deck if too big.

If you plan to seriously fish the reef up there, go the bigger fuel tank. 150 litres is just adequate in that hp bracket.

The yammy 115hp was always a strong motor. The 130 just a bit better. I think it will be fine on the surtees with 3 pob. The 150 would be nicer, and with 4 and a big esky I think required.

go the 150 and put in a 952xs instead of the 95sv and make sure you het a GT15TM for a transducer... 95sv you will be disappointed with offshore

Agree with Spaniard. If money is not a problem go the 150. U can always throttle back but it is hard to go for more horses when U are already near full revs.

i am constantly trawling the used boats market and i can say in my case, minimum HP is given the flick. The max HP is always worth $2-3,000 more. A 150 has so much more grunt than a 130. You can run a bigger prop and cruise at lower revs for the same speed.

Its easier to upgrade a sounder than it is a motor so go the 150. I imagine if you are cruising at 20-25 knots the 150 may even give better (or equal) economy due to not revving as hard. I would definitely up the fuel tank too. 150L will be fine for the likes of Keeper and Loadstone however once you realise how heavily they are fished, the temptation to push out that extra 10-20 miles is hard to resist.
If I were looking to spend 2.5K on electronics for fishing the reef, especially if you want to hit the deeper waters for reds, put your coin into the sounder. cant go wrong with a furuno for that sort of work (which will probably chew up most of the 2.5k). The GPS map would be where I look to save money and you can upgrade when funds allow.

Hey mate, I have started a bit of research on your suggested 952XS with GT15TM to upgrade from the 95SV. I would like to know if you have gone the external black box for Side Vu? Will it let me go radar with clear and concise readings? (I have seen it on the website, but its always better to get an owners thoughts.) Thanks Again!

The radar will work as good on this screen as any other
