Pacific Plate boats

G'day everyone chasing a bit of info and history on my 5.8m Pacific plate boat, it's a 1994 half cab, I brought it about 3 years ago from Noosa, is anyone familiar with the old pacific boats? I believe they were built in Brendale? Are they different too the sport fish? Any help would be appreciate

Hi Will,
Pacific Custom Craft were built before the owners took on the remains of Sportfish, after it had gone bust. This was in about 1994 if I remember correctly. (Happy to be corrected)
Once owning the 2 brands, Frank and Ann called themselves Pacific Boats, which made the two names; Pacific Sportfish and Pacific Custom Craft.
Not long afterwards they merged with Qld Ships, 'still surviving' owners of Fisher Boats and Ocean Cylinder.
Called the new group Deep Vee. (No connection to any fibreglass boats of this or similar name)
Deep Vee went broke less than 2 yrs later. Companies like Noble later became involved and later the story went into China but let's not go there.


The hulls they built during the mid 90' were at the time very expensive and high quality builds.

No, Warren owned Stingray before events saw him working for Pacific and building Sportfish. It was actually their main dealer who lead to invest in the Super Vee design that Nobel later bought.

Bulletproof was a limited range of Sportfish Boats. Before Super Vee.
The term came from its presentation to be (hopefully) unable to be faulted. Nothing to do with guns.

im not sure the bullet proof series was available in the half cabin only the Center cab i could be wrong though.

The 5.8 Tournament was a fully-rigged demo boat from Brisbane Sportfish specialist Northside Marine and I was able to sample it on a number of occasions. Each time it reinforced my first impressions - here was an accomplished and affordable offshore package.

So when Northside's Billy Hull contacted us with news that the company's latest Sportfish demonstrator had hit the water, I hightailed it around to the company's Deagon premises to check it out.
This time I was greeted by the 6.4m version of the proven centre-cab layout. Here was a chance to find out if bigger is really better.
Accompanied by Bill and Northside's owner Gregg Nickerson, the plan was to take the boat straight from the fitout workshop for a half-day shakedown run and a few hours of fishing on Brisbane's Moreton Bay.
With the weather gods playing along for once, we were enjoying ourselves so much we ended up spending the whole day on the water, covering plenty of ground and blooding the boat with its first few sportsfish.
Fitted with a 150hp FICHT-equipped Johnson outboard, the 6.4 offers similar packaging to its smaller sibling.
The standard model features a 5mm thick plate alloy bottom and transom with 4mm sides and deck. However, in this case, Northside specified Sportfish's 'Bullet Proof' option - 6mm bottom sheets and 5mm sides and decks!
This adds around 130kg to the hull's weight and is also available as an option on the 5.8m.

Would that apply too my 5.8 if it's just labeled as pacific? I am still unsure if it is a sportfish? Great piece of information thought mate,

Hey Will, it would appear that your boat is a Pacific built hull before the Sportfish brand was involved.
I thought they were normally badged Pacific Custom Craft.
And I would buy one any day. Low volume/high quality builds.

Gday Will, I have a 96 5.8 sportfish centre cuddy cab. Check your build plate behind dash and it should tell you who built it.I believe they were built from 94/97 as sportfish, then went to pacific sportfish and then to noble (china).Cheers

Thanks for the info guys, I'm happy with it, it Handles good in big seas, and following seas, doesn't broach, I have a 2015 150 Suzi pushing it and they both do every I need it too, 2 day trips too the hards etc etc
