Fishing monthly would be full of shxt if that's the case. Obviously u need the balls to swing it but the lower cruise rpm is the gearbox ratio, nothing to do with brand. Its not just Merc that offers the command thrust/ bigfoot style gearbox. Has its place. And the 140 Suzi still seems to last more than its fair share of hours despite having its neck wrung for thousands of hours

Having just water tested the streaker i can confirm the below is accurate, actually the 135 merc was able to achieve 76 km top speed and was able to achieve a fuel burn of BETTER than 2 KM/L at any speed from 25 KPH to 55 KPH and did achieve 2.5KM/L at cruise, my feel was the 135 would easily pull a bigger prop the hole shot was exceptional and the acceleration from a cruise speed of 50 KPH to 70KPH + was outstanding ( you had to hang on ) it was very much speedboat performance .

Attached screen shots are not in smooth water but show fuel burn at cruise. That said I`m happy with this motor, about 1nm+ pl and around 37 knots. Rob.

Hey BigE, would you know what prop they were using for that test? Rob.

Not certain but i think it was a 18 vengeance, see Troy at Brisbane marine in Clontarf , he is the streaker dealer with the 6.1 navigator.

I am glad they were the fuel figures. I feel vindicated now.

Yeah sorry I read it wrong. I thought the said that economy at wot. But still I wouldn't have believed 2.5 from a 135 at cruise on a near 6m boat. Good thing. I also really like the owner designed maintenance features of these motors.

Myusernam The 135 felt closer to a 150 to me, maybe some cowl sticker engineering with the 3 litre merc i think.

Robcam - 17" inertia not sure this is the prop for your application. google enertia prop issues and it seems a few people have issues with this type of prop.

get some expert advice and be prepared to spend some time getting the right prop. it will be worth it in the long run.

I am not surprised the 135 felt like a 150, considering they are the same block. I would like to see a 135 merc v 140 suzuki comparison. I cant imagine the suzuki would even be in the same stratosphere, since the merd has 50% more displacement.

the 140 suzuki shares the same block as the 100hp suzuki, where as the 135 merc has a bigger block than some 200hp outboards. In the future if the suzuki fan boys can pull their heads out of the sand, the merc might start selling very well against the suzuki when people reaise how much more torque it will have.

I run the 17 enertia, as recommended by mercury. I have never changed the prop as it seems to be fine, and as stated I am getting better than 2km/L from the 150. Maybe your hull is just not very efficient.

hi BigE, have looked around the net but can mainly find good reports about the enertia so any suggestions on prop types welcome.

WildFish, maybe your right and this hull is " just not very efficient", but as I said I`m still propping this motor and I was only looking for suggestions on props. My post says that they claim 2.5 kpl best economy and top speed of 74kph, maybe could have been clearer but no typo. (edit- WildFish, I note you have edited your post.)

    Robcam

merc website describes the Enertia as
    • Boat types Commercial Workboat, Cruiser, Deckboat, Houseboat, Offshore fishing, Pontoon, Runabout - cuddy, Runabout - open bow
    • try looking at a Vensura or tempest plus design. get some expert advice ( i am not an expert) and nail down your performance goals , a 3 litre motor on a 5.5 should fly and should be able to carry a good load.

BigE, Thanks for the reply and advise, appreciated. I will look into these props. Did the last boat with solas and was easy to keep trying props to get it near right. Merc have a a good range of props but not so easy to keep swaping. Have spoken to Steve from solas in passing and they don`t have a lot of data on the 135.I think I`m getting fairly good numbers out of the boat now but agree the thing should be hoping with the 3l merc. It`s a fairly heavy 5.5 plate though, build thread`s on here if your interested. Rob. Iconic 5.5 cc, another build thread.

Some punters have told me the 17 enertia is closer to an 18 inch P. I dont know how this has come about, just what some people have said. Not that that really helps you as we are both running the same prop and engine. Have you calibrated the fuel consumption? On my gauges when I first had the boat the gauge would say I only burned 20L, but at the fuel station i could put 30L in to fill it up. You can adjust this on the gauge so the fuel consumption is accurate, which I have done. this may also be linked to the instantaneous burn rate, which may be inaccurate if you haven't calibrated the fuel consumption.

Thanks WildFish but I`m using the Vessel View 4 gauge connected to the nmea 2k backbone and the Gen3 lowrance. Fuel burn is accurate to the litre or so (on 184 litres)when I fuel up so I think the data is right. The inertia is a wide blade prop and I know from my last plate boat there can be a big difference between two props of the same pitch and different blade shape so I think will try some more props yet. Rob.
