NBT new boat itch, i got it bad.

    Hi Ausfishers

It's that time again .... perhaps for the last time, I am seriously looking at a new/newish offshore boat and at the age I'am and the cost of a new rig it is likely that this may well be the last. There seems to be a wide range of wiz bang options at the moment so I thought I would put my preference's for all to see and ask for thoughts and experience you never know i might learn something or look at my options differently with the collective knowledge and wisdom of the ausfish world at my disposal. so here are my current preferences(in no particular order) in my boating search.

    • must be offshore capable.
    • must ride comfortable ( i don't want to feel broken after a fishing trip)
    • must have a toilet/porta potty
    • must have a full canopy that doesn't impact fishing to much ( getting to old to be touched up by the sun)
    • must be able to be handled one up ( not often but when I get the chance i want to go ...no excuses)
    • must have economy of 2km per liter or better at cruise ( for the days when I'm paying for everything)
    • must have room for 2 x 120lt eskys (under seat frames)
    • would like glass over plate ( not a show stopper but i do like glass)
    • would like to be able to boil a cuppa ( absolutely not negotiable if i can't boil a cuppa i can't buy it)
    • would like fresh water (not lots just some , cuppa and wash face/hands))
    • would like toes holds under side pockets
    • would like built in tackle storage

So I recon I'm looking for 6-7m glass half cab with a mid range four stroke on a multi rolla trailer less than 10 yrs old or there abouts.

so what's my budget you say, up to 70K but it would need to be something special to get me to part with more than 50K.

so anyone have a BMT that fits the bill?

I bought my Yalta craft 2200 (6.6m) for $50,000 brand new with 150 4 stroke and redco sportsman trailer.

    • must be offshore capable. - yes
    • must ride comfortable ( i don't want to feel broken after a fishing trip) - yes
    • must have a toilet/porta potty - yes
    • must have a full canopy that doesn't impact fishing to much ( getting to old to be touched up by the sun) - i dont have clears, but its always an option
    • must be able to be handled one up ( not often but when I get the chance i want to go ...no excuses) - yes, i do often
    • must have economy of 2km per liter or better at cruise ( for the days when I'm paying for everything) - yes
    • must have room for 2 x 120lt eskys (under seat frames) - has 2 eskies under the rear seats, 60L each or so, plus 100L kill tank
    • would like glass over plate ( not a show stopper but i do like glass) - yes
    • would like to be able to boil a cuppa ( absolutely not negotiable if i can't boil a cuppa i can't buy it) - dont really understand this, you want a stove? buy a thermos.
    • would like fresh water (not lots just some , cuppa and wash face/hands)) - doesnt have a fresh water tank
    • would like toes holds under side pockets - yes
    • would like built in tackle storage - it has compartments, under the seats, in the cabin and a tackle rack along the side

    Hi wild fish
have been looking at your thread and have found your rig appealing from a "new boat" prospective it is certainly on the list and I have looked at one you did very well to come in at 50K for the BMT.
Boiling the billy is horses for courses not important to everyone but i really like a fresh cuppa in the morning especially in winter and in the budget range i am considering not really a big ask, I think as our boats have got more wiz-bang over the years some of the old school thinking about things has been passed over or forgotten, but to me fishing should be simple relaxing and enjoyable. I think consumers now-days have great choice and many options ...so long as it is the same as the last hundred customers who came through the door it has all become a very Mc Donalds experience in lots of ways.

I came across this on the weekend. Looks like good value. Don't know if it's pristine?

    Thanks Dantren
certainly ticks most of the boxes and ideas on the fuel economy on the traveller TC 2000 and how they ride I not seen one in the flesh.

Yeah he is a character. He works alone so doesnt break any speed records but the finished product is worth it. I know shortly after I bought the package they raised their prices by a percentage as they hadnt done in a long time. So that might have added a couple of thousand onto the price. Certainly still cheaper than a more well known brand name boat. I was looking at a berti 25, because you can get a half decent one for $40,000, even if they are old though. I like to travel with the boat so the inability to tow it put me off that kind of option.

    About this cuppa business.
I have a little nespresso machine and 3 mugs packed into foam in an old 10 litre esky.
I use a honda 20i jenny and we have a flat white and wonder what the others are doing!
The victory also ticks all the boxes, but youd want to drive conservatively to get 2 litres per km. maybe 1.6 or 1.7 with the 200..
    Arguably better resale than some...

Do you mean you want a permanently installed mini galley or just somewhere to park a small butane cooker etc? If the latter, on the bait board ok, or does it need to be out of the weather/cabin area?

Hmmmm, if you're talking 'real boat length', this will be difficult to fit with your fuel economy constraint and being a glass boat. 6m, maybe ok depending on brand, fitout and power, but many around this size will be <2km/L, and 'fishing outside', 1.5's to maybe 1.7's

Have a look at the Steve Peake designed Archer 650. One is for sale on Gumtree. By all reports, an excellent sea boat and it will tick all your boxes absent your economy requirements given it has a MY2008 Jam Jar fitted. It's also a substantially proportioned boat for single operator handling but doable subject to your level of seamanship.

The Cuppa deal is not a full galley deal just a single burner to boil a billy , do like the Honda jenny idea easy to store and opens the possibility of a jaffel maker and no flame which is always good on a boat. good thinking tenzing !!!

WFE - yeah closer to 60k than 50k at the moment.

Go-Fishing i like the idea of the burner up near the cab ( seen a neat compartment in the Boat outfitters.com web site under storage and stoves) tenzing idea might trump it though.

Hook up the George Foreman instead
    ( optional extra)
Don't worry it's more stable than it looks

Had a guy in a big Cabo offer me 50 bucks for a cappuccino and a muffin just after this photo was taken

LOL. You almost need a bigger boat from the sounds of things - hope you took his money to help pay for it.
