What's the best time to sell

Hi all I'm just throwing it out there for feedback
in everyone's experience when is the best time to sell a newish boat as mine is only 2.5 years old but has done 440hrs
it is a 4 stroke though and service regularly.

when people buy second hand are they more after engine hours low or hull year or
    how the boat presents.
I thought around 500hrs is a good time to sell there's nothing wrong with the boat it is perfect for me but I have know idea.
I just don't want to have 1200hrs on the motor and struggle to sell it.
or does engine hours have no bearing with 4bangers ?
    cheers scott

both bro.. as with dealers or the guy on gumtee lower hours and a better look the more you get its a rule of thumb,, wether any1 gives you what u want.. well thats up to luck of a guy with the cash wanting it, putting it in reverse would you pay top dollar for a newish boat all scratched up and looking sad or its twin next to it thats looking good. so if yours is looking good and not so old then yes for sure you can ask a fair higher end retail price., but i gotta say bro i and in my experience i never get what i think is fair people want something for nothing,, but trick is to stand firm on your price..and ill definately pay more if hours are low, regular service proof is viewable and one owner really helps and if it looks good then id pay more.. i think no1 wants second hand if we could all afford new, so better and closer to new it is/looks the more likely to sell..
ill be somewhere up the creek, happy trails..

Its a bit hard to comment without knowing the boat etc..but I bought and sold three second hand boats in fairly rapid succession to end up with what I wanted.I can only make the following observation....its a buyers market...there is a lot of choice out there.

In the end there are only three propositions you can put to the potential buyer..

Better.........My boat is in great nick for a blah blah blah

    Cheaper...Its a bargain be quick

Point of Difference.. My boat is the only one with this or Ricky

Give yourself plenty of time to find the person who will actually pay the price you want..if its a sale towards the top end of valuations..As your engine hours per year is higher than average.I would consider testing the market earlier than say 1000 hours and see what response you get...it will probably be the best real guide as to what to do.

As far as the engine hours themselves..to me its more about the servicing, flushing and how the engine was run...flat chat everywhere or more lightly loaded...I dont think it unreasonable to expect 3000+ hours from a 4 stroke well maintained.

what would you buy,, and would it be worth if your rig still has years left in it,keeping it till it dies, and save for a new better rig,, as you never get your money back in this market (please try if you can) but it might work out cheaper to keep and save rather then sell for less and have less for a new or better rig..
just a thought..i usually never look at getting my money back but keeping as long as possible until i can afford what i really want, even though with my poverty lol i usually have to take the ugly duckling at the boat yard.. you know that boat they put out of sight in the back corner that no1 wants, yup thats where the dealers take me after they ask what i have to spend...lol..

These types of threads come up all the time with the same questions phrased almost identically. There is no right answer as it is a how long is a piece of string question. Simple fact is if you buy new your going to take a hit, how big is entirely up to you, hold on and wait for ever and a day or price it to move.

mate im a realest not after top dollar i spent 88K brand new and the boat looks like it has done 440hrs gets cleaned every outing and serviced every 100hrs so i was thinking around the 65k mark but when you look on boatsales the way the boat yards display them most are underpowered (imo) so to keep the price down so a brand knew boat is selling for 65k but with no fruit or extra ponys.
im just thinking do i keep for another 3 years and have 1000hr and only get 40k for the boat or sell now cheers scott

Don't jump the gun I think he was implying if you used the search button before asking you could find all the answers you need without starting another thread.

Just clogs up the board with repetitive topics.

im not jumping the gun and im not attacking, but this reply comes up now and then that someones post has been done,, dont tell me that dont imply its not a needed thread, and why should he not be able to post it and why does he have to read through history... were here to talk men not read, and not to tell people there posts have been done as i said just let the man post his post all he wanted was some feedback.. is that so hard..mates..

Gotcha. Both nice boats by the looks. I reckon keep the Tournament a couple more years, but boats are such emotional things, you just do whatever you want and THEN work on justifying it to yourself! Lol
