Is this a good boat cover

Hi guys, time to get serious about my boat cover. Up to this point have used a big 4x4 cover which did the job pretty well but it's only been on a year and is fraying and now a tear, so hardly worth the $100 bucks or so I paid for it. The boat is exposed to the weather and at times it gets pretty windy so I need something that stands up to it and waterproof .
I am looking at one of these, anyone have any opinions on them. This is for a 5.4 Signeture cuddy @ $390.00. Thanks

Best option is to get a quality custom made cover, that way it fits properly, is high quality with tie off points where you want them and will last for years.

    Thanks Noel
What cost are we looking at for custom made this size, I seem to remember checking that option out a year ago and it was scary. I just need it to last about five years

oceansouth make the best aftermarket covers... but they really are a few pegs down from custom. if you can save a few pennies and get one made it will be one of the best investments you can make. it will be a few hundred. but yep. worth it.

Re: Is this a good boat cover

I have one of the Oceansouth jumbo covers over my boat and they are pretty good for the price. Very waterproof and keeps the sun and wind off. My first one lasted about 4 years out in the weather which I thought was not too bad for the price. The fit to my boat is Ok but not like a custom job and where it contacts some places on my bimini it has worn the canvas a bit. I looked at a custom cover but it was over $1600 so I figured it may be better value with the cheapies. BTW I think Whitworths are better on the price.

Custom made of the right material is the best way to go. A little dearer, but in my opinion better in the long run.

This came up a while back, I calculated I could get 15 years of ocean south covers for the price of a custom cover....that was changing them out every 2 1/2 years which are about as long as the two OS covers I have had lasted. I would go another one but you won't get 5 years IMO.

I had an OS one on my TopEnder for about 7 years without problem in sun/wind. I made sure to use padding material in the form of socks over all likely looking snag points before fitting (cleats, bollards, bow sprit etc.).

Ive got a custom cover from these guys on mine, came with the boat and is about 4yrs old and still looks like new. Its sunbrella material that breathes i have re-waterproofed it once as after awhile the material soaks in the water instead of beading off. They are on facebook too if you want to send them a request for a quote.http://maroochymarinecovers.com.au

If you go the off the shelf path. Go to whitworths or similar and get some Dacron sail repair tape. Once the cover has been on for a month, take it off turn it over and put a patch over any points showing any rubbing at all. Will more than double the life of your cover.

Scott you are correct. I am now on my 3rd boat cover and I didn't buy cheap one's. Had a quote for a custom job and it was $8000 sewn with titanium thread for that price. I am in the process of boxing up the slab for the shed now. It is costing me $6000 for the shade shed and another $4000 for a slab.
