Hi i am wondering if anyone has had a good experience with a trailer manufacturing company i am after a pretty solid trailer for a 4.3mt tinny it will be used at fraser and remote areas up north cape york (corrugations) and Kimberlys. I know a lot of people will say build it yourself but i don't have time and id rather stick to what i know. I am from bribie island so northside brisbane sunshine coast area's would be good. I appreciate some help and tyre size recommendation.
Mate, have a look at the Redco and Tinka range and explain to them what you need. They will always build to requirements and will provide any back up support you need.
Belco Trailers at Brendale specialise in building what you want
Tyre size should match the tow vehicle. Try to match the width of the vehicle tyre track as well.
Coil springs with independent arms would be preferred. Shockers a must. Airbags are an option too.
Skids everywhere with wide surfaces not just the blue 2" side stuff.
A front stone apron out of shade cloth or canvas would help.

Yeah i would like to run the one size tyre on my cruiser and trailer. My tyre size are 275/70 r17 a couple of the trailer mobs have told me too high for beach launch. Im really happy with that size tyre on the landcruiser. The boat going on the trailer will be a 4.25 sea jay magnum2 with a 30hp yamaha 2 stroke so not a lot of weight and no brakes. I have a quote from mackay and belco i think ill go with belco.

I would normally say go a belco custom build but I also saw the heavy duty alloy heavy duty version at AMM at brendale and they are way impressive but I would imagine Expensive but certainly worth a look for what you are after .. Matt

Try FMS they had one made already for sale a few months ago. Might still be there.
One thing I should've done when I offroaded ours before our NT trip last year was to use the small trailer wheels instead of skids for support underneath. This is a mod I'll do again before going back up north, along with a few other things.
A good walkway we found was absolute necessary, especially for launching at the like of Shady Camp, the other thing that I would never do without now is a remote control electric winch. Allows you to be at the boat when retrieving or launching, without having to be at the winch post, so helping it on or guiding was much easier, besides not having to winch it up manually (we still have that option there as well). We used an automotive style winch.
We went eye to eye leaf springs, mainly for ease, would I do independent later, not sure, I'd have to think about it. What we got handled the corrugations with ease, but I would add extra storage to the front of the trailer, including fuel and maybe water, as we remote camp along the way for weeks at a time.
Hope this is of some help. I'll see if I can find some photos of the 'awesome' trailers that we come across up there, wish I had of seen some of them prior to going.

Thanks corry did you run the same size tyres as the 4wd you towed with. Ive been told by manufacturers my 275/70 r17 will make the trailer to high. And in regards to storage i was thinking of mounting a toolbox behind the stone guard and a couple of jerry holders ill still be well under 750kgs
I have a pic of the one i want to build ill tey and load it up and be great to get some advice as mistakes can be expensive. Id love to see your pics of set up trailers.

Tyre wise, I couldn't run the same size, we run 305/70/16 on our Cruiser, and it would make the boat sit too high. The rims are the same size, just steel instead of alloy, but tyre size is smaller. They could be used in emergency on the car, but not vice versa.
I'm off fishing and camping for the weekend, so I'll find the happy snaps Monday and put them up.

I think it comes down to what sort of offroading you going to do exactly?
I can give you a little bit of insight. I have been going up far north QLD for about 10 years. I have been involved in making 2 offroad boat trailers, and helped a mate do a box trailer to carry a boat ontop.
How handy are you at welding? Because any of the major trailer manufacturers I know of dont make a decent offroader.
Do you know what swiftco's offroader was? a piece of 5mm flat bar welded on an angle at every join on their standard trailer, what a joke!
secondly don't get alloy for offroad. It'll flex and work harden and crack.
Couple of things I've found,
firstly do you plan to do any serious offroad stuff? or is all your driving along corrugations?
Secondly do you plan on launching at boat ramps?
Cause a decent offroad trailer needs clearance if your doing some ruff stuff, which makes it hard to ramp launch.Not impossible but a tad tricky
If its just corrugations then you can have it lower and launch at ramps fine.
Or do what I did for my 1st trailer, and have a split trailer, this is a great way to go.
Do a search here and check out the piccy's of trailer I made for my 4.5m seajay.
This I'd do on a trailer are-
- running the same tyres on it as on your vehicle,
-Treg coupling is a must.
-double wrapped hinged leaf springs are a must!
-Electric marine brakes(easy to install) you can buy the whole axle assembly.This helps alot if you have to stop suddenly for a pot-hole and you dont want your trailer to overtake you, these are great for offroad but not so great if your doing a lot of beach launching.
- probably double or even tripple your keel rollers
-dont put heaps of weight in the actual boat or it may split.
Also do you plan on carrying lots of fuel in the boat/trailer?
