Anyone know what the conditions are like up the cape around late Oct???

Has the wet started by then?

are the roads shit after all the traffic during the dry?

Was up there a fortnight or so back, drove from Weipa to Cairns for work, road was like a billard table all the way from Weipa to about 100k north of Laura, was fairly chopped up for that last 100k of dirt, still easy enough to maintain 80kph.
It was like Queens street the number of vehicles, certainly not the "wilderness" I was expecting.

Wet season doesn't usually start til February. Might start earlier but October is safe.

Roads are usually ripped to bits by the end of the October school holidays.
