More Outboards for us to choose from

This morning I received an email from an exciting new maker of outboard motors. image003.jpg

Don't know if I should print the price list on here, but there were a couple of 60hp models in range of AU$3000

Pretty brave company to be introducing a 2 stroke range with the strict new regulations just around the corner.

Who is importing them? Like any of these newer imports such as hidea, powertec, parsun etc what is the warranty like? Back up service? Parts availability? Are they a copy of anything?

I just read the "blurb" about the company, and like all writings, the interpretation is pretty funny at times, one of the big "features" of the motors is the fact they use NGK spark plugs, not exactly sure that rates too high as a selling point! They also state the motors are a mix of Tohatsu and Yamaha, even kind of implying those two companies had some sort of a hand in the manufacture, the motors are listed as "analogue" not too sure what that means, maybe no EFI? still at least being Korean kind of sets them apart from Chinese, good or bad? don't know whether a Korean new comer will make inroads into the market, but time will tell. Shark Poker, seeing as you received the email, and have a price list, and also state the motors as being "exciting" are you associated with them?

Lot of people said that about Hyundai and look how that turned out. Guess we will just have to wait and see.

Actually no. I don't know them, and I think they are probably emailing every marine business in the country.

"My name is ####, and I’m glad to introduce you our company. As according to current competition on outboard market in Australia, outboard market demands a reliable engines and prices that would satisfy every customer!

They are an offshoot of Hyundai so should be ok.

The biggest hurdle (in my opinion) is actually getting the market share, you could have the Rolls Royce of outboards, but it is still an unknown brand, and buyer resistance has to be overcome, you can advertise, give a few away, offer them to pro fishermen maybe, but in the end, it is still not a Honda/Yamaha/Mercury/known brand, Tohatsu is still a minor player in a lot of ways, I know lots of car makers have cracked the market big time (Toyota for one) but the auto industry is huge by comparison to our boat market, add to that, tough emission laws just around the corner, I see hard times ahead for the marine industry in general, let alone for a complete new comer, but time will tell.

    Hi Everyone

There's nothing new about this motor. It's just a trading company from Korea rebranding what used to be called a "Hidea" outboards until they got a bad name and had to change their name to "Seanovo" But unfortnately for them didnt change any manufacturing processes. I regularly (every 2 years) test these motors and tour the factory to see the quality.

    Cheers
    Garry
