Best time of year for good weather to drag the boat to Fraser?
Trying to decide on which school holidays to book a fortnight at Orchid and drag the boat up the beach. Whats people's vote for the most consistent good weather? Is it June/July or September? I'd imagine that Easter is too inconsistent. We normally camp on the beach in September but not sure if that's the best time for offshore boating.

I usually go up in October, we've never had less than 3 days fishing, I've been up in August aswell, a lot colder but the weather was better than our average from October, although we might have been lucky, the fishing was definitely better, but again this might have just been luck, all I can say is, if you're going to drag it all that way, be prepared to not even get it wet, I've seen and heard of a lot of blokes losing or almost losing gear and lives because they take chances they wouldnt usually take, simply because they've gone to the effort to get the boat up there

Cheers mate. Three days in a week? Am bracing for the worst option of having the boat stay on the trailer the whole time. It would give me the shits but I'm very conscious of how small the boat is and how shitty it can get! We'll also be taking a tinny so have the option of Wathumba and the western side if worst comes to worst.
Thanks to all for the feedback in my various Fraser threads. I've been going to Fraser since a kid in the early 80's, taking my own car up once I got a job and could afford it and these days dragging the camper up there with my own kids but haven't ever taken the boat up. Nothing like getting advice from those who have done it. Although, I have helped pull a hell of a lot of cars and boats out of Indian over the years!

I'd say July/Aug/Sep for the best weather. October can be notherlies month. The old Toyota Fishing Expo was always late May/early June and copped its fair share of rough weather. You could only count on getting out 2-3 days in the week most years. There can also be a lot of NSW low pressure systems around then generating big swell.

Worst week I've had was 3 days out of 7 (5 once you take out a couple of days driving), but we did get a very good bag those 3 days and were happy to miss out on the rest, and I'd agree with October being bad for northerlies

We usually go Jul/Aug and one year got out once in 2 weeks, May/Jun as Smithy says seemed to be a bit more consistent during the comp. It's all up to the weather gods but if you are limited to the school holidays I would do the Jun/Jul period, the weather should be more stable.

Thanks all. It looks like June/July it is.
