Was getting the boat ready the night before and found this little guy in the live bait tank.
At the bottom of the empty live bait tank, there it is a single whiptail cruising around still very healthy in 2inches of water.
Keep in mind last time I was fishing was on the 25th of last month, full 9 days ago.
On top of this there was couple of quick showers in that week so what little water there wouldnt even be salty anymore.
This whiptail wasnt dying, fully alive still zipping around.
I hoped that it will stay alive overnight so I can fill the tank at the boat ramp immediately first thing in the morning and release him back to wild at the fishing spot later on.
Anyways, up by 5am, checked to see whiptail was still looking good and headed to ramp.
Beautiful flat bay, no wind, all excited, boat in the water and by the time I remembered about the empty bait tank and whiptail I was few miles in to the bay, dohhhh!
ohh well hang on for a little more you little fella, not long to go now.
Arrived to spot1 to see sounder lighting up with action.
Released the whiptail, it was happy to go down deep immediately.
Frankly, I though about putting a hook in him to see how far he can be a hero but he indured so much already and I dont use them for live bait normally.
How tough are these whiptails, unbeliavable!
Anyways, this day was one of the best top 3 hot action days I have ever encountered on the bay.
Had to fill the bait tank 3 times, thats over 70 livies easy.
Pretty much every one of them had a hit including herring, yakkas and pike. No touch to a single whiting which is interesting as whiting is one of the top bait normally.
Caught pb red emporer of the bay at 37cm, released.
Just couldnt get away from mackerels, everywhere I go they seemed to follow me. At some stage they were cruising behind my boat for a while. Macks are frusturating as I dont normally fish for them. they just slash the bait and result in a very low hook up rate.
Longtails were busting all around my boat and had a good run on top water for about 5 mins, but spat the hook soon after which is unfortunate.
Caught 6 large mouth nanny, around 32-35cms, released.
Was waiting for a cod hook up and it come towards the middle of the day, 72cm for dinner
4 school mackerels to 60-62cms
Run out of livies again and I couldnt bother anymore, too hard solo, head back early around midday.
Flew back to the ramp at warp speed, flat bay still.
At the ramp as I was driving on, some fellow with kids and missus helped to hook up the boat out of his goodwill.
Gave him couple of the macks for dinner in return as they were mostly out for a family day.
Dont understand all the talk about ramp anger, I have pretty much nothing but helpers at the ramp.
People seem to help me all the time out of goodwill when I am solo, as I do to others.
Great day on the ater again.
