    Wiring in a sump pump

Have to wire in a rule sump pump non auto...just wanted to ask what is the best way to make the joins in the wiring from the pump at the sump end given that it may potentially be wet or worse!

Have used these joiners everywhere on my boat and not had any issues after 3 years http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/100pcs-26...gAAOSwpDdVeFQ3

I used those that odieman mentioned last week. Pkt 5 for $5 from Jaycar if you only need a few and are in a hurry

Plus i used the technique described in another thread for tail light wiring, which is what i was doing. With silicone pumped inside heat shrink, entirely around all wires, before it is shrunk. Seems to have worked well.

I'm probably the bloke who described the silicon into heatshrink method, pump it full over a soldered joint with a fine nozzle end, then shrink, utterly waterproof. Not as pretty as the other type, but it will last the life of the boat. Been using it for maybe 30 years now, never had a failure.

I read your post sometime back and could not find it again when I was doing my trailer lights as I could not remember if you used silicon or glue stick. I went with the glue stick and it works well also. When you heat shrink the glue melts down and seals up great.

A double layer of glue lined heat shrink after soldering........the heat shrink is also available at Jaycar/RTM
Confidence.......the feeling you get before you fully understand the situation.

There's not much happening on the forum at the moment so even a discussion about joining wires is welcome

I'm surprised this thread didn't start a CRIMP Vs SOLDER riot.

You can also wire a float switch ( In the sump at the back of the boat) in parallel with the dash switch.
gets rid of water if you are busy doing other stuff.
Good advice on waterproofing above, I had structure above the joins, so was able to attach the wires and joins to it well above where water would get.
