Re: Used boat Dilemma 1800 Tournament Bluewater vs Haines Hunter 580sf

I have a tournament 1800 mind you a 2011 with a 115 etec on the back and I really cant fault it, I have taken it out from moreton in some ordinary conditions and felt safe.

Also, I haven't had an issue with it being water logged in the sealed compartments. I believe that this could happen to any boat depending on the day and time it was being built, as a boat being done on a friday afternoon would certainly be rushed more than one on a tuesday .

The more you research a boat the more negative reviews you are going to get, best advise i can give is what ever you decide on make sure you take it for a long water test, and pick the worst conditions you can so you can see how it handles. When I got mine 2nd hand I took it in 25 knot winds in the bay to make sure I was happy.

Anyway that is just my 2 cents worth.

    Hey mate.
I don't have much experience with either of the boats. But I think the best way to buy a new (second hand) boats, is to first decide on what model boat you want first, at least narrow down to a couple of models, then keep an eye on what comes up for sale, that way you are not continuously comparing random boats against each other, and you can really find out what is good value when comparing apples with apples.

And I'm pretty sure you will be able to get the boat you want with a 4s for early $30's

    i bought an 08 yalta 555 with a 115 4s yam with 100hours for $32k 2 years back.

but I waited a few months for one with a 4 stroke to come up. But when it did come up, I was able to move quickly, because I had already made up my mind on what boat I wanted, I just needed to check the condition of boat ect.

    Just my thoughts.

I find it interesting people think a Haines boat is a lot better than a Tournament. Haines brought Tournament out 3 years ago and still trade Tournament under there name. That's a pretty good sign that Haines believe Tournament are a great hull.

never assume that, there a various of reason many companies do that... and most of the time it just an over take or merger, pending who hold the major vote shares

for instant, when foxtel brought austar.. it wasnt becuz they were better, share holder pull out and invest there dime into something else, causing a draw back on austar to keep up it cash flow

if company only wroth 50mil and only pulling 15mil yr with 9mil out expense neting 6mil a yr divide by number of investors
if investor A withdraw his shares that wroth 19mil

the company will be short 19mil, therefore other investor will not get any income for 3yrs, under the trade act, they would need to rebate all there customers if it simply stop... causing a bigger lost to the investor, therefore business plan undergo a over take 2bil bill to fillin the expense and investor demands lol

but likewise if you do share market like most of us do, you'll understand, so never assume there better, if haines brought them it for one reason only, tournament lost investors, and share were up for cheap but haines didnt have the major vote % and couldnt change the name of the holding company due to existing investors, but not becuz there great hull, it was to just control your enemies growth

theres a difference between Haines Hunter and Haines Signature. Haines Signature bought Tournament when they were going bust after only being around a few years. Do they even build them anymore? They bought Seafarer as well, but havent seen any new ones around either.
Having bought and sold a few boats in my time I would suggest getting a good brand as they hold their value and are easy to sell when its time to. If they have been popular for many years its usually because they are a good product.

It's all about getting Suzuki's on transoms without creating excessive competition between dealers thus making the brand non financially viable for the dealer network. If the dealers all sell a different brand of hull with the same engine, the customer can't run between dealers forcing the price down because the combination of BMT probably can't be purchased as a package elsewhere locally

I have a 2100 tournament walk around 2014model and it handles chop awesome just fitted trim tabs for a even better ride the only problem that I could personally say about the brand tournament is that I am unable to contact the factory for anything they will always say go threw your dealer... I live 5min from the factory yet they want me to drive 45min to get a hinge they make in the factory. !! Go figure otherwise the tournament boats are great and you would not be disappointed.....
dont let all this banter about brands stop you most people have never owned 5 different boats otherwise they would be bankrupt as they would almost all ways lose out when they sold just my opinion

Well i have actually owned 6 different boats (all mono) and still trying to find the right one, guess my fishing conditions have also changed over the years. Maybe the 1800 tournament will be the one.

Re: Used boat Dilemma 1800 Tournament Bluewater vs Haines Hunter 580sf

I've had a Tournament but I didn't keep it for long so I can't comment too much. It was the T2000.

There was a T1800 in sydney that had the water issue. The water was coming in from where the bulk head joins the floor. Wasn't sealed properly and getting into the sealed compartments.

There was another T2000 at a dealer near y with the same issue. The boat was tilting on the side when underway. They drilled a hole and a lot of water came out. Not sure what the issue was with this one.

All i can say is when i had the T2000 there is this area i always pass where it gets a little rough and you have to hold on etc. when i did the same path with a 5M venus (seafarer) it went a lot better in similar conditions.
