Well do a search on Etec's and Etec owners forums. Ie from owners and real world experience. I am pretty sure Mercury's Optimax motors don't not like running out of fuel either. Do you want me to did up references?

    Here's an interesting thread:

Also I recall Mercury recommending against additional in line fuel filters for the Optimax because the possible restriction to fuel flow could damage the engine. This was pointed out to be somewhat problematic given the injectors are so vulnerable to water contamination! I recall that the GM eventually came up with a compromise that they will still honour warranty claims for such set ups so long as it could be shown that fuel flow was not restricted.

A good thing the fair and noble Dale has graced this thread with his presence to referee you bickering kids.
Now perhaps he will provide video evidence (or a quote will do) of the aforementioned misdemeanor?

Interesting that bit that they are the second highest outboard manufacturer after Mercury in china wonder what all the merc owners who have been bagging Chinese products have to say about that.

Anyway here is a bit on Optimax's and in line fuel filters which backs up my recollections:

At least it is one line certainly worth reading. As opposed to some links about more amateur opinions.

If you hadn't decided that the links weren't worth reading you might have noticed they include comments and references from an Etec dealer, the Mercury installation Manual and the Mercury Vice President. Hardly amateurs?

PS: Amateurs don't have an a vested interest such as being in the business of selling one type of outboard motor.

    .
An etec dealer? O come on!
An installation manual is not a person. Neither is Chewbacca, but at least he is a professional.
And just guessing the Mercury Vice President did not rise thru the ranks of veteran marine repairers.

The moderators on the Etec Owners site are Etec dealers (hence the thousands of highly technical posts.

Don't you think that an installation manual might be written by a 'professional person' (just priceless that one)!

Do you think that the VP of a company is in the habit of exaggerating or making up shortcomings of his product?
