Bought some smoked cod last sunday and it tasted and smelled great. Unfortunately bought 2 much and split it in 1/2 to have for another meal later on in the week. Stuck this in the fridge in a snap lock bag removing all air . Bought it out tonight 5 days later and it stinks a google search says ammonia smell? Was i unrealstic to think it would last a few nights in the fridge?

Depends, of you got that yellow stuff that is just dipped in smoke mix, it is simply raw fish, and usually frozen before you got it, then you keep it for a while, it just goes off, true smoked fish is actually cooked, and will last lots longer

So, you are taking about that yellow "Cod" you buy at Supermarkets? If so, it hasn't been anywhere near a smoker, you can buy the stuff they use, it is OK, but nothing like proper smoked fish, and remember it is RAW! Possible in the shop for a few days, in and out of the display, then you buy it, keep it for day's in your fridge, chances are it will be off.
