Repowering 6.2 Kevlacat

Currently own a 6.2 Kevlacat and re-powering it.
I was wondering if anyone can tell me if a 115 Yamaha with an extra long leg will work? or does it have to be an Ultra long?
And also does anyone have any advise of different types of transducers?

Most will be XL (25") be careful of the weight, those old 6.2 don't like heavy motors, too heavy and buy a set of gumboots as well.

I have 115 Yamaha 2 strokes on it now . i have a chance to grab a pair of 115 Yamaha 4 strokes at the right price from what i can find i think they are about 20kg heavier each motor. so to compensate for some of the weight, i was going to move the batteries from the back to the front hopefully that will help. The main query is that the old 2 strokes are an ultra long leg and these 4 strokes are only extra long.

Hi Gino,
Has the transom been modified at all?
The 6.2's were designed for a 25" (XL) leg.

HI Pete,
As far as I'm aware the transom is original. Motors that were on it were fitted slightly higher, maybe to keep them out of the water. Will attach some photos soon.

I think the terminology has got you confused, I don't think the old 115 2 stroke was ever available in ultra long (30") but extra long (25") is common, and is what you have now, pretty simple to measure, just get a tape and measure from the lip that would normaly sit on top of the transom, to the cav plate, it will be about 26", not 30!

Thanks Noelm for your reply. This is what had me confused to start with as the compliance sticker is very faded and barely readable, but i am sure it has UL for description of length of shaft but i had also measured it and yes it does measure 26' in stead of 30 so thanks for the info .
I am also looking at updating the old sounder to the new 588 Furuno sounder and wondering whats the best transducer through hull or transom mount etc . Any info would be much appreciated as this is my first cat i have owned

I guess through hull is best, but not the easiest to do, a transom mount is simple.

I FINALLY got to use my boat!
Thought I would update you all. I fitted it with second hand 4 strokes, counter rotateors. It has changed the boat for the better, anyone thinking of upgrading to 4 strokes it is highly recommended. The counter rotators has made a massive difference completely changing the way the boat handles. thanks to everyone who commented with their advice.

Hi Flex, Yes 115 Yammies...after moving the batteries up the front it sits the same as when it had the 2 strokes on, witch I think is a little low but not to bad. Its more than halved the fuel bill.
