that includes all maps and transducers etc. both units are combo units. both units have mapping built in. a sort of redundancy in a way.

Re: Single independent units Vs combo GPS/sounder

Having had a single unit on my first boat, I migrated to two units on my second boat. I see many functional advantages.

1/ less fiddling about when on the way. Its not particularly safe to be messing about with a unit whilst on the way, just like texting whilst driving a car. You cant do both properly. Especially in rolling seas, its damn hard not to press the wrong buttons or press any button at all. The less you have to do the better.

2/ While powering away to the next site, its great to see whats under you, For example, a school of fish or strange structures that hold fish. these structures are not always available on a downloaded map. things like trees. seeing 30-40m trees underwater in lake eildon was an amazing sight. (side scan)

3/ As we get older, our eyesight diminishes so 2 screens in effect means larger real-estate for our eyes. Small screens are for kids who like to stumble around on an iphone 4 keypad. I like my ipad !

The ultimate in your boat is to have 2 units, but because of lack of room in small boats having the single unit makes sense. Having a sounder and a plotter free's up your hands and keeps everything simple. If you have a combo your pressing buttons all the time because the split up screens are too small.

    I prefer separate.
In addition I'm on about my third sounder because of internal fogging and corrosion, brand has been mentioned in other posts.
Would have been a bit jacked off if I lost GPS AND sounder because of the fogging.
The gps hasn't given me any problems in that regard.

(I'm in a small 14' boat, the electronics are out of the weather, but maybe a bigger boat wouldn't put the units at risk as much.)

Installed a single unit (Simrad NSS16 evo2 with 1KW chirp thru hull transducer) just recently and wrapped with the outcome. I find it very easy to use and with the ability to customise the screen you can set it up exactly how you like it. dash is neat and everything is right in front of you where it should be. I run split screen with radar overlay on the GPS, works really well. See a couple of pics attached. Attachment 112250Attachment 112251Attachment 112252

Depending on how the Stesco is set up that might almost be a fair swap
