Old tinnies tiller steer, why low HP ratings?

    Hey Guys

my cousin has a 4.3m Qunitrex the hull looks identical to the Fishabout model but his is tiller steer (now converted to CC) but he's is only rated to max 35hp

now im on the market for a nice boat and have found a 5 meter tinny which has only a 30hp motor tiller steer and it looks like it an original package from the 1990's

    30hp on a 5m boat like really?

i will be hopefully picking it up tomorrow but with all this rain the anticipation is going to build if i cant take it out for a spin

why are all the older tinnies rated to such low horse power ratings?

I think it is simply the way we are these days, everyone has to have the max HP on anything, or be labeled as under powered, these days life is fast, we drive through to get a hamburger, pull up at the high flow pump at the servo, buy movie tickets online to save 5mins at the theater, and our boats have to be fast, no one wants to do 10 knots any more, even though it might mean a sedate soft ride with lures out the back, and getting to our fishing spot 10 minutes later........

    lol Noel funny

heres the tinny 5 meters long unsure about width probably around the 1.9m mark with a yamaha 3 cylinder 30hp i guess the hydrofoil is a dead giveaway but as i mentioned it looks like a stock package from the shop way back in 1989-1990 but cant get my head around so many owners keeping the tiny motor on it unless thats all its rated for from back in the day, i will have to look for the builders plate if it has one

something i may look at is if this 30hp can be converted to possible 40hp or even 50hp

anyone by chance know what make the hull might be? i could possibly look up other boats to see what donk their running

That's a very narrow 5mt hull. Probably well suited to a 30. The 3 cyl Yammie is a smooth if not powerful motor. I had one on a 420 Hornet and it was a sweet little donk.

When a tinny is built it has to pass certain tests. if it was a center or forward console the hp would be greater,35hp is the max hp rated for the hull as a tiller steer to operate safely by the designer.
