re a new lowrance hds 7 gen 2 touch ?

hi just a heads up re a hds 7 gen 2 touch display unit recently sold to me by bcf under allegedly incorrect warranty advice - a call to navico re the warranty situation advised the units warranty actually starts from the date the display unit goes on active display in the store and does not start from the buyers purchase date - so be aware of that catch - e.g say 18 months on display in a store = then only six months warranty left for a head unit - so one is going back to bcf

    you gotta love navico !!!

    cheers rob

ok well latest is Lowrance tech people are now saying warranty starts from the date of customer purchase ( a bit of back peddling by the look of it now as what marine outlets will put the units up on display if they cant be sold later with a full warranty ) which is of course as it should be - but navico customer service were adamant when i spoke to them this morning that the warranty for store display units starts from the date the unit was put on display and i have the guys name i spoke with - so at the end of the day your guess is as good as mine re Navico / Lowrance warranty but maybe allegedly smarter to avoid the cheaper store display units currently on sale

Sorry but personally I wouldn't buy a navico product if you paid me they are not backed by any sort of reliable service ,I still run the original furuno 620 that Iv had since release day here in Australia and my Navman gps is still going strong after 14 yrs . When I buy new it will be Garmin or furuno nothing more nothing less but certainly not lowrnce garbage lots of wiz bang features that aren't reliable or out of date in 12 months . Matt

mate no prob like lowrance or dont its up to you - i think they the hds gen 2 are a pretty decent unit and i reckon down scan and scructure scan are just amazing at times - but to each his own and nothing wrong with a top class furuno in my book

So if you have had the Navman for 14 years and the furuno for ages what do you base your opinions of Lowrance products on?
I personally have owned a few Lowrance products and they have all been good. I have also owned a Navman plotter and it was terrible. One thing I do agree on is the Garmin products.

re a new lowrance hds 7 gen 2 touch still available ?

Based on my own previous experience over the last 30years using electronics and that of other fishermen that I have been associated with over that time and the crap I see posted on here about shitty lowrance products . I have had more than a casual passing interest in fishing and boating over 40 years , that gives me an opinion so apart from that there is plenty of evidence on this and other sites as to the lack of service from navico and lowrance here and overseas thanks again Matt [emoji41]

I don't have a hassle using my Navman 5500i not saying the unit didn't have problems but it certainly is user friendly in my opinion and I have used gps and plotters on various boats I have had the pleasure of operating . Matt

hahaha. I must have got lucky with my Lowrances eh. Sorry to tell you this ,and I,m sure that a fella with 30 years electronics experience knows, but your 14 year old Navman is a product of Navico!

Is the Lowrance the reason you don't catch any fish, Jason, and the reason why you're selling your boat?? Just asking like.

Re: re a new lowrance hds 7 gen 2 touch still available ?

You know, there's one major reason why there are more reported problems with Lowrance that most other brands.....

Its because they hold a far greater share of the market than any other brand. Furuno sales would be a tenth of Lowrance/a simrad, if they are lucky.

Ive spoken to major electronics dealers in the USA who sell all major brands and they say the Lowrance problem/failure rate per 1000 units is on par or actually better than the others.

My personal experience with their customer service when I have had issues, over the past 35 years of boating has been fine.
Note to self: Don't argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience....

Once again again your lack of knowledge is outstanding , my Navman was a kiwi ( New Zealand ) manufactured and owned product . Sorry you are so wrong but enough about my knowledge and go have a look at the ch smith web site they may have something like what your after t a price that suits . But I guess your research would have told you that MR Know it all ...bye Matt
