    Seafarer V-Sea (transducer)

Having recently bought a 2000 model Seafarer V-Sea I going to update sounder etc.

I want to install an Airmar P79 transducer (In hull).

Is there anyone here that has a V-Sea that has the same transducer installed

If so where did you install (pics would be excellent).

There is currently an old lowrance sounder only and there is an in hull transducer.

Would I be safe to remove the old transducer and in stall the P79 in the same location.

One other concern I have is that directly under the transducer on the outside bottom of the hull is what appears to be a rubber seal/plug.

I have called Seafarer (Haines) and they do not have anyone working for then now that worked for Sesfarer (at least that is what I was told).

I know this is a strange one but any help, advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

That is not a rubber plug. It is the face of the through hull transducer that is moulded into the boat. To Install a p79 in there would involve removal and then re-glassing that section of the hull. What diameter is the face of the transducer? Provided it is not too big you will be better off with a P319 or B117

Well there you go. You learn something every day.

So scottar you are telling me that I have an old thru hull transducer, so I should just replace with a thru hull transducer.

So I can just remove everything I see and replace with a B117 or a P319

Can a handyman install one of these easily.

This being the case I will have to replace it as I have purchased Garmin 75sv.

I've looked at both these and they have an outer flange that measures 75mm (the lip on the flange is 12mm). I've just measured and I only have a flat area that measures 68mm.

Can you see anything wrong with filing off 3+mm on each side so it sits flat on one side and doesn't overhang the other side ?

While possibly not recommended - that is how Seafarer used to do it (file the sides down) and I never heard of it being a problem. Just make sure you use a good sealant and the hole is of a close tolerance. They are well within the realms of a handyperson to install. The instructions are comprehensive. Those old Lowrance plug style through hulls can sometimes be a bit stubborn to get out - you pretty much have to undo the nut and tap them out with a hammer from the inside.
