Angry transducer for simrad evo 2

hey there everyone , I have a simrad evo 2 I have at the moment a tm150 transom mount transducer , having trouble getting a good reading at speed so I was thinking of other transducers possibly shout though hull (in hull)
my boat is an old Caribbean reef runner trailerd
1st what's your thoughts on this and do you think ill loose anything much going through the hull 300 watt as apposed to 600 watt?

2nd lets go back to transom mounts , yes I have the tm 150 chirp seem to always have it on 83 as when on chirp cant run the structure scan
now I've been told that the HD50/200 or the hd 83/200 transducers are better than what I have ???? I'm so confused on this one says this the other says that and what about the chirp side of things?
3RD does anyone have an old Caribbean with a inside hull transducer for feed back
    help please
    pat

Any sort of quoted figures in relation to the amount of signal loss shooting thru a hull are at best a guess. There are way too many variables that can change the results - even between hulls from the same manufacturer. If you want to try it without spending money, pull your transom mount off, set up a temporary wet box where you think you want to mount it and give it a try. The only difference between a transom mount and a thru hull transducer with the same specs is the shape of the housing. You can even do this with a wet on the outside, plastic bag filled with water with the transducer in it, placed against a well wetted hull. It needs to be done in the sort of depths you are wanting to fish though to see real world results.

out of interest why not consider a through hull transducer?

what sort of depth are you fishing in btw?

mainly Morton bay shallow to sat 25 meters outside at the moment up to 100 meters and on seldom occasions looking at deeper to 300 or 400 , new electric rod . haven't disregarded through hull , just been reading up looking at b75 or b175?
moose I'm curious that with the tm 150 which supposedly is from 95 to 155 it has an option of 83 kHz ??? how can that be ?
the other question if I put in a custom , say 105, will structure scan work at the same time , or is 83 it?
also if I go to say the b75 is that the same , just 83khz or can I put any custom in and watch both , like you can with 83?
    you confused I am?

You can't shoot thru hull with a CHIRP transducer, do some research on this before you attempt it! They get too hot is my understanding and there are also other performance issues that basically rule this kind of installation - ie where you fit it inside the hull to shoot thru the fibreglass hull.

I believe you are actually considering the in-hull transducer installation where a new CHIRP transducer is installed by cutting a round hole through the hull and installing the tilted element transducer there? If so, yes, they wo work well and typically are better than a transom mount transducer.

Ive read of people having issues with the TM150M reading well at speed. Equally, I've read of many people who have persisted and got the positioning correct and had great results. It may be worth trying so adjustments to the TM position before going off and spending money on new in-hull transducers.
Note to self: Don't argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience....

thanks moonlighter ill do some more research just worried about punching a hole in the boat and finding its no better?
standard evo 2 what can it handle 600 or 1k? out of interest,

I have 2 airmar thru hull transducers a b75 low and a b175 high. To be honest I still get my best read in deep water with the good old fcv Furuno but in anything under 50m the chirps in the Simrad evo2 are the pick. No issues under way up to 20km/h but every hull is different so no point comparing notes on speed and clarity of read.

mate 20 k's isn't real good id of thought you'd get better pickup than that . how do you go when your on structure scan at the same time ?
thanks for the feed back I travel about 25 knots sometimes more
the structure scan at slower speeds just wondering about viewing both with those transducers

Structure scan doesn't like high speeds-nor do I use it for anything above 6knts. I'm mainly fishing in 60+ m
