    Aluminium Boat Trailers

    Hi Guys,

Looking at get a new aluminium trailer for a 6.5m mono hull.

Considering getting one from Saltwater trailers in Victoria. Anyone have any feedback on these?

I've sent and called a couple of suppliers - disappointingly, been waiting for a response for a while, but if anyone else has some other options, please let me know.

    Thanks Nathan

No tropicows, located in Brisbane but work in the logistics game and do enough travel that getting it moved anywhere from the eastern seaboard will be pretty cost effective.

    Re: Aluminium Boat Trailers

I bought one in 2012 when they used to be caller Peterson trailers. I have the 19-21H.
The suggested changes I have with mine seem to have been addressed with the product they sell now. Stainless brakes are now standard (I should have selected that option) and my winch handle hits the bow stopper - but these are sorted out now from what I see on their web page.
The major Issue I had with mine is when built the axles were put way, way too far forward so have to re-drill the frame to move them back. Make sure you get the axles put where you want.

Otherwise it's a good trailer and better value in the long run than the gal steel trailers I see at the ramp which are newer than mine and the frames are already rusting significantly. Very glad I went with Aluminum...

Funny you mention trailer suppliers not getting back to you. I had problems with that too. Must be too much business around to bother responding to multiple phone messages left from a genuine buyer?

Let me know if you have any specific questions

    Thanks Snatchy, appreciate the response.
Yeah, asked 6 suppliers for quotes 2 got back to me, with a 30% price difference. At least Saltwater Returned my call.
I sent 2 emails and even called two of them, they took a message and said they would call me back but didn't.
No skin off my nose- I'll spend a couple extra bucks if they provide the service, but I just want to ensure product is of high quality

Nathan, did you try Duralum trailers? Or were they one of them that didn't get back to you?

Really like mine, and would buy another.
    Cheers

Riptide boats at underwood make aluminum trailers to suit there boats. Give Dave a ring I'm sure he would build one to suit your boat.

Main advice is avoid the ones (a few brands) that look like a bolted together macano set unless they've "broken the mould" and used gussets between the flanges at every connection. They're fine if you have a 5km round trip to your nearest ramp and never go anywhere else but if you do decent K's buy a decent trailer.

    Re: Aluminium Boat Trailers

I bought a P22-24 Peterson trailer from Justin Harris back in 2011 and I am very happy with it. The peterson models are the early version of the saltwater trailers. The only update I have made is changing to stainless brakes which are now standard on the new models. The support from Justin has been great any parts needed wheel bearings, brake parts etc they have been able to supply. My boat and trailer come in at around three and a half tonne so its been a good test on the torsion bar suspension main structure build no problems at all. I would buy again in the future.

Nice trailer, looks almost identical to my origin trailer - not that you can get one these days. Based on my experience of towing 3.5t on a very similar trailer, over some very average bitumen roads for long distances, I can say I have not had any issues to date.

You are right about the service - Justin is miles above the pack in that regard, Easytow were also very good to deal with.
Bang for buck, I will be going with Peterson. The reviews I have had from 4 others who have this trailers is also very good.

Appreciate everyone's response on here. Thanks
