    sloppy sea

Forcast for today 13/11/15 off the Sunshine Coast was for seas approx one metre & 8 knot E/NE. I got out there at 4am with my 5.3 whittley & after half an hour had to take my two passengers back into the ramp at Port Cartwright - Seasick. They don't normally get sick. The sea was pretty rough with waves coming from all directions but virtually no wind. I went back out but was getting thrown around a bit in the boat. It did get a little better but not much. The fishing was poor. Nothing. Any comments as to why the sea might have been so sloppy & uneven over the past few days?

Was there a strong current running? That will always make the waves stand up

Was sloppy on Wednesday too. And windy. Between Scarborough and Curtin reef. Not pleasant coming back around midday.

Current was absolutely hiking south at the Point lookout waverider and Cathedrals today. Dollies didn't want to play (if indeed they were there - saw a few small kings swimming around but that was about it), couldn't hold bottom with a pound using a sea anchor and braid, came back in and tried for an early season mack on the coffee rock off Moreton - zipp. Back to Peel for an argument (that was lost) with the world's largest stingray and then home.
In close around the Group this morning it was very sloppy but it did flatten out as we went wider - at least until the northerly kicked in properly.

It's been pretty bad up noosa way to be honest, i think theres a fair amount of current pushing the swell along and some quite changeable winds adding the unpredictable element. Either way its blowing north all damn weekend now so the new boat shan't be getting wet this weekend

Thanks for the input guys yes you are damm right it was a strong current and changeable winds so that explains somewhat why the waves were standing up. Possibly the left over from previous storms at sea as well. A new experience for me as I only go out when the forecast is 10 knots or under in the ocean so as to avoid such situations. The crew (my daughter & our home stay student from Hong Kong) were still sick last night poor things, they'll probably never come out with me again! A mate I was taking to yesterday said he went out 35k to a spot he has marked on his GPS but could only stay out half an hour as he was getting thrown around the boat so much. It was apparently a very uncomfortable trip back in.

Left Scarborough and had a good run across the bay to Comboyuro Point.
The banks were a little sloppy due to last of the run out tide, but nothing eyebrow raising.
Out to Hutchison Shoals and had a great day.
I had ! crew member that vowed never to return but all in all was pretty standard conditions, matched the forecast for me.
We trolled for most of the day and the Hoo are chewing.
