I recently purchased a new Suzuki 4 stroke and I am in need of some more hole shot power. It is on a 4.1m Tinnie but I run pretty heavy loads and a big bait tank in the rear and even though it does plane it is struggling to do so fully loaded with 2 of us on board.


It currently has a 11 1/2 x 13 prop on it that came with the engine.


Which one of your props would you guys recommend? is 11 pitch too drastic of a change? Would 12 pitch be enough do you think or would that not be much different?

You cannot pick a prop size on a discussion forum.
The best bet is go and see these people and tell them your issues.

They will either modify the blades on your prop or sell you the correct prop. You may have to do some trial and error running.

Hey SS, good advice above about talking to the guys at prop repairs. They are very helpful and I found them to be less expensive than some other more promoted companies.

Go with an 11 if the 13 is really struggling. Your current prop could be pitched down but probably isn't worth the hassle considering how cheap props are in that size and they lose a bit of efficiency.

I would have thought that the dealer you bought the outboard from would have sorted this out for you in the water test.....

The dealer no doubt did a water test with just one person in an empty boat. The OP is running a full and heavy boat so the prop can't cope. Bit hard to point at the dealer.
The only way to do an accurate prop test to do it as you plan to use it.
Mate go back to the dealer and see if they are willing to help you out with a different prop, never know your luck.

Ant "off the shelf" prop is a compromise. For specific use, a prop may need more rake, different blade size and shape, different cupping. Back whey I had my Hornet these guys discovered I needed a big blade super cup prop for the best performance, they made one and it was amazing the difference it made. A good prop will easily pay for itself.

Every time I've had a new outboard the dealer has loaded the boat to simulate a full load for the water test.....that's normally the way it happens mate..

Most outboards 60hp and below come with a standard prop, anything else is considered an optional extra!

most 40's and 50's come with a 13pitch.

Until you can identify what rpm your engine is attaining any so called prop expert is only making a guess!

Yeah 11 will do fine...finer than what you have i dont know if diameter...... if different consider also the 9 or 10....if what you say is not that dramatic then the 10 will do all you need without the any fuss forever...still you can fuss if you want to...sometimes I do...9 might be a bit much less but off the shelf props are crap for incremental size...10 will probably be boss if possible.......11 a no good choice compromise but acceptable as is the way with props...assuming common or near common diameter as you already provided.

get it gooder enough and some numbers then consult the mathematicians to do the quadratic equations for better still if possible...they will still sell you a bad prop if it's closest their brand has for sale.
