Suzuki or Yamaha 4 Stroke?

So you have done back to back comparison testing with both motors analised the data and can say that Suzuki is better than Yamaha.

I have and can confirm, suzuki is better then yamaha

I've owned both and I like the technology that goes into the suzukis, having no timing belts is a massive step up. I've got a charter boat mate who got 6000 hours out of a set of 150 yamahas with original powerheads, his up to 3000 hours on his 'new' 200's. I don't think you could go wrong with either!

not sure a timing chain is newer technology than a timing belt. I'm pretty sure its the other way around.
Is a Suzuki motorbike more reliable than a Yamaha? Same goes for outboards. The day a Suzuki anything is more reliable than a Yamaha is a day that hasn't happened yet.

at ease gents ... don't think this is a beatmeup suzi/ yammie arm wrestle, its just SS askin for some opinions to help the decision making process

I ride Honda trail bikes but don't own a Honda outboard .... guess what I'm tryin ta say is horses for causes I guess ... if your askin me (IMHO) I would say suzuki are one of the best outboards throughout the whole suzuki range ... but that's just my opinion man, however I still don't own a Suzuki car lol

Suzuki are not without their problems. Neither are Yamaha. These chat boards are testament to that all on their own. Any of the majors have good reliable motors but without and even sometimes with, good maintenance failures will/may happen. Whatever way you go, proper setup to make sure you are achieving the required WOT rpm - not just by the dealer guessing that that prop is the right one, and good clean fuel goes a long way to keeping any of the new motors happy. Regular maintenance (not just from the dealer) and a good proactive dealer are also important

While fuel saving is a part gain, one of the other advantages is in the 30 -40hp range you can move up to PTT AND ELECTRIC START. Both of which are not easily available in 2 strokes. We just upgraded to a Tohatsu 30 hp 4 stroke on our tinny and the features mentioned above have made boating and fishing a breeze with the extra freedom you get.
We previously had electric start on our 2 banger but now having PTT as well, has made the outfit an absolute joy.

of course not and tbh everyone is a little oneeyed with their brand of engine
which is why the only way to gauge whether to buy brand ab or c is to go through the forums and see whats being complained about
people rarely come here to say their choice was excellent
and if they did make a poor choice male ego would prevent them from saying so

one poster above thinks he gets 80% better fuel economy when suzuki claim 23%

thats all i can remember but apart from the etec not one of them failed had a major repair or broke down on me while on the water
i did have a fuel leak on the 90hp johnson but was a fatigue connector from poor installation (took 10 years to fail though )

Love electric start, my 20hp has electric start and it retains the standard method of starting if no battery.

Can also get power tilt and trim is the suzukis 20 - 30hp.

But it is much better with electric start and was one of the reasons I went this path as well.

Yep Dads tinny i reckon my advise to all who are planning a newie, is to go the whole hog and get the trim and tilt, as the flexibility it gives above gas assist is awesome especially when esturary fishing and boating.

Care to elaborate on that? Are you saying that because you don't like suzuki over yamaha and they are a suzuki dealer or have you genuinely had issues with them?

Yer those etecs.

You're the first case I have heard of on all of the internet who had trouble with AMC but I will be vigilant.
