Hi everyone, Clint here, I work in partnership with Brad Smith doing river fishing charters on the Gold Coast and Tweed.
Just thought I'd say g'day and give an update every now and then on how the rivers are fishing to give you keen local anglers and visitors a heads up.
We have been based mainly at the Tweed River lately which has been fishing well for flathead, bream, whiting, trevally and the occasional Jewie. The whiting are increasing in size which is good to see. The best fishing has been upstream from Tumbulgum lately due to the dry weather.
We have made several ventures recently with both boats to the Nerang River and found there is a dredger working near the casino which is causing nice dirty water to end up upstream near Sorrento and Carrara resulting in nice catches of Flatties in the 50 to 60cm range on the flood tide in the deeper water down to 5m, along with legal size bream, whiting, grunter and little GT's.
Here's Mick from WA with a 58cm Flathead he caught and released at the Nerang River using a 48mm Pontoon 21 SP Crackjack in Bloody Tiger Prawn colour.
The Broadwater has been cursed by snot weed fouling hooks, hopefully this clears soon, there has been large schools of Whiting near the dredge opposite Sea world. This coming week leading up to the full moon is looking good, hopefully we get a bit of rain.
All the best and tight lines, I hope to drop in again regularly, we await the mighty Mangrove Jack!
