    Fishing around woolongong and south

Heading to NSW for holidays shortly and I'm taking the Yak with so I can escape from time to time (hopefully every day) can anyone give me some info on places worth paddling in that area?
Hopefully I'll be able to get south to jervis bay for a paddle too so anywhere between woolongong and there would be great.
Never fished down that way so anything you can share would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

Enjoy your stay down in Gods country. With a bit of luck Noel will pop along shortly with a few ideas for you both in WOLLongong ( sorry but being an old Gong boy myself i just had to correct you on it ) and down the South Coast.

If you stay on the Highway and head through Berry rather than via Gerringong be sure to stop off at the Donut van, best donuts in the world.

    Cheers

    Steve

How long before you are heading down? It's a tiny bit early for the Flathead and crabs in Lake Illawarra, but you will still get some, plenty of Bream around if that's your thing, a stop off at St George's Basin will see you get into some fish, Jervis Bay is a spectacular place, but be aware, it is BIG.... Let me know a bit closer to the date and I will see what I can organize, where will you be based? I am at Shellharbour, about 15mins south of Wollongong.

OK, Albion Park is only a few Ks from me, you will have lots of options for the yak, Lake Illawarra is at your door step, Minnamurra river is only a few minutes away and has some good "yakking" A family day trip to jervis Bay will be well worth it, beautiful white beaches and clear water...I don't have a tinny at the moment (but I might have by the middle of next week) if the deal comes off I can take you crabbing, even if it's too early in the season, there will be a few.

Damn, the tinny deal fell through, just as I was ready to go and look at it, but I am onto another one, either way, we will be able to meet up and organise a trip or just a bit of a chat (and maybe a beer or two)

There are patches of flathead in JB you might be able to get a few of them.
Along the weed beds on the southern side, east of Greenpatch worth trying for squid with your yozuri type lure.

Anywhere in Jervis Bay will yield a feed of Squid, the bay is more or less round, so just head to a "side" that will have the wind offshore, Honeymoon Bay is a great spot in a North Easter, nice spot for the entire family, and good yakking too, if you do any diving, there is heaps of really big oysters in the ribbon weed beds just off almost all the beaches.

So were on our way south. Weather looks to be average with showers and windy all week. Oh well good chance to see how good this new Yak is.
