Bucket List ticked at Fraser Island

Although I am not normally one to post on reports in this forum, I felt I at least had to give myself some recognition for my first ever Spanish caught, even though it is a common catch at Fraser Island these days.

I went there armed with a box full of slider rigs, which I had some understanding on how they worked but in the end failed to get them working properly. The fish pictured was simply caught by pinning a single hook near the tail of a 40cm tailor and cast back over the shore break at dead low tide into the back gutter. No weight was used and the bait swam out deep straight away, which was lucky as that doesn't always work.

Fish went 1365mm over the ruler, guessing about 17-20 kgs. and was caught just north of Dundabarra.

Also found the tailor fishing a bit weak compared to previous years. At least 8 Jewies were caught, however 5 were undersize.

Anyway, hope this motivates you guys who are still heading up there. EnjoyClick image for larger version.

Nothing Special, An old hollow glass 14 foot surf road, Daiwa Seagate 4500 spin reel loaded with 50lb braid. Home made plastic coated wire leader with 7/0 live bait circle hooks. No sinker, nothing fancy. Would love to get a bit more knowledge on the use of the slider rigs as they should make the job easier to get the livies out into the strike zone.
