You can glass sleeve and epoxy it up but best option is just either replace the whip if it seperates from the base or get a new antenna.

A long thin one will be likley to snap before unleashing it's full potential. A short fat one however will be more sturdy and sure to please. It is howhever all about the gain; the bigger the gain, the more likey the pain.

Put a ping pong ball on the end. The wife will now see it and not abuse it.
when the wife sees it with a large white growth on the end of it she won't want to go anywhere near it.

No ping pong balls in the shed, gave up on those when I finished uni...
Tried blue pills, didn't do anything to the antenna but it had great side effects, had some heart rate issues though...
Tried trusty Scottar's advice.
Didn't have any fiber glass around but had some carbon fiber sheets.
Wrapped with some resin around it and hardened like a rock, stiffer than ever before.
Some white electric tape around to blend in, all worked well.
