You will need to get it on a known good antenna to try and isolate the problem or take it to someone who can test it. Just out of interest, who are you trying to call and from where?

my vhf will not pick up any channels I can not even call from the bay and I can not hear anybody either?
any ideas on channel 73 it says SHIP TO SHIP. I did pick up channel 67 with weather reports any help please

mate i can not even call the brisbane coast card or raby bay from the SPB i can not hear anybody logging on or of either. I scaned all channels and only 67 was picked up which was the conditions.... just wanted to log on and off

Certainly does sound like you have a problem then. Unless you have access to a RF Power or SWR meter it's virtually impossible to say whether it's the radio or antenna without substituting one or the other. If you have a neighbour very close by you could park the boats close together and see if you can talk on a simplex channel - not an absolute guaranteed test as the set can have low output power but if it does talk short range it is most likely antenna. If it has never functioned, it can be worth re-terminating the antenna connection - a fairly common issue if it isn't a prefab connection. If you are running a splitter try it with the splitter removed.
