Ive just bought a Garmin and the charts are far easier to use compared to my old Lawrence and Navman units. One thing has pissed me off though is there was over 200 pre installed marks in the US that I have to remove one at a time from the unit.
Giddy fellas I'm putting new electrics in the cat wanting opinions. I'll be running stand alone 587 furuno sounder and 12inch plotter.
plotters I'm interested in are sim rad nss12 furuno tzt2 or Garmin.
want to add radar to these in future also.
pros and cons of theses 3?
Cheers KC

Democracy: Simply a system that allows the 51% to steal from the other 49%.
80, my experience is more with Garmin handheld, but these could be deleted by hooking up to computer, Windows Explorer and the delete button. Similar to adding new, backing up etc.
well yeah thats going to be a groovy set up heres a few things i have found
Gamrin- solid units. stupid fast. like.. jamaican on red bull fast ...rather easy to navigate and operate. the g2 vision maps have some awesome features. HOWEVER... they could do with some more detail in areas
garmin radar is getting better. BUT
simrad- simrad has the new HALO2 and broadband radar options which recreational grade are the best on offer. simrad has some extra mapping ........options. "navionics and jeppesen". as well as DIY mapping with sonarcharts live and insight gensis. simrads laters software update has helped fixed some of the niggles with the touch screen. but it does still have issues. build quality is good but not garmin good
Furuno. great system not as easy to use IMO as either simrad or garmin but stupid fast and great screens. however for the price of all that you would be better just running one TZT2 system with sonar. instead of the split set up. if you are keen on keeping the 12" apart from the furuno. then id be looking at the garmin or simrad
point to make is the future proofing of the systems
garmin is very fast with its twin 1kw chirp capiable built in sonar
simrad has FLS and structurescan 3D on its way.
and there is the price different. there is a fairly big difference between the NSS12E2 and the garmin 7412XSV "the cheaper 12 inch units from each brand"
there is also a cool fact. whats going to look boss in your boat
some videos for refrence
Cheers everyone. Thanks moose I Pmed you mate
Have you already got the 587 ? I'm upgrading at the moment as well and have been looking at all the options but will be only considering Furuno gear in my boats as they are simply the best. They are pricey but you get what you pay for and after having simrad, lowrance, humminbird and furuno all in my boat at the moment and having the 4g radar shit it self at 3 years of age I'm not happy to say the least, and after the reports I have heard from friends that have just put multiple garmins in and another with multiple simrads and no they are not happy with them "well the garmin one he is happy with the garmin as a stand alone plotter but that's it" then that is just a waste of money in my opinion. I would prefer to spend the coin on the TZT2 12" and have the best and at $4490 and the fetures they have I think they are actually very well priced and if you don't have the 587 yet you could leave that and get say a DFF1 uhd for a little extra and then you have 1kw chirp or do what I'm looking at but depends on your budget.

Life's too short to fish from the bank and you can't take money with you when you die so buy a boat stupid
Different strokes for different folks Casey - don't make a decision until you have played with all three to make your own mind up. If you do decide you are going to run with the FCV-587, look into whether the other brands will accept the TLL sentence from the sounder so you can use the sounder to mark a spot in the GPS without having to turn the boat around and run back over it. Get your retailer to guarantee it will work - not just off the brochure - if it is a function you are interested in. Take a good look at all the day to day operations to make sure you are happy and never assume a machine will have a function just because it is a top end unit. Make a list of all the stuff you do on a regular basis or wish to do - range changes, naming waypoints, map orientation changes, inserting and deleting waypoints, managing and deleting tracks, waypoint capacity and track capacity just to name a few and go through all 3 thoroughly and make the comparison. The number of times I have heard guys come back saying "but it wont do this" or "I don't like the way it does that" simply because they bought the same unit as a mate or what had been recommended to them instead of having a good look for themselves - if I had a dollar...........
Make a list of products you like and make a choice from ANYTHING that isn't made by navico as its garbage and as soon as you install it it becomes out of date , I will be buying a Garmin plotter when my NAvman dies ..Matt
A bad days fishing has got to be better than any day at work......
Cheers everyone any suggestion where best places to go have a decent look at these units. Need a boat show!!! I will definitely be running seperate units just how I prefer it. But also want decent maps and contours for searching cheers growler cost not a huge issue want th goods. thanks Scottar valuable info for sure and cheers matt will keep that in mind
Furuno TZT 2 has the scroll back feature and can be done also on the FCV-1150 but not sure you are wanting to spend those soughts of $ as it's not an MFD so to speak. best offshore sounder on the market though.

Liked how the garmin in mooses video just turned off by itself as that is what they do when you are trying to navigate with them

hahah you can thank terry for that, his spooling machine is right behind the sounder display but it was 5:30 and i wanted to go home. so video was done
it is worth playing with sounders/mfds, there is no right or wrong. just different. one of the reasons i built all my displays to be the same white display units was so that people could look, feel and touch without any bias from flashy advertising, before that i had this giant monolyth lowrance display given to me by navico. i had a boring black and yellow humminbird one. a basic cream school yard looking one from garmin, and people were swayed by the displays "which makes sense" but yep. that wasnt cool with me. hense the similar displays
then again, it could be that im just nuts!!
lol
but yep, have a play
Really appreciate your vids Moose
